Sony Ericsson C903

Sony Ericsson's Cyber-shot range has enjoyed huge success, but is the C903 the last we'll see?…

A mid-range handset with an excellent five-megapixel camera

While the navigational credentials should be applauded, we often lost our satellite fix

A neat addition to the Cyber-shot range that made us feel quite nostalgic for the brand as a whole.

HTC Hero / T-Mobile G2 Touch

Google's Android operating system hits new heights in the excellent internet and social networking phone, the HTC Hero …

Syncs perfectly with social networks, excellent internet features, super responsive touch-screen, one-touch access to Android Marketplace

Camera can't capture night or motion shots ; phone may slow down when storage fills up

A phone with a near perfect operating system that's as powerful as it is a sheer pleasure to use. We like very much.

Asus Seashell 1005HA

The Asus Seashell 1005HA strikes the perfect balance between affordability and power …

Lots of ports, great keyboard, fast start up and application loading, plus its affordable

Can't play high-definition media, and the screen resolution is capped at 1024x600 pixels (if you want full screen)

The classic netbook, executed almost perfectly.

Toshiba TG01

The TG01 promised big things when it was announced earlier this year, disappointingly, it seems Toshiba spoke too soon…

Slim good looks, sizeable screen for comfortable web browsing, high degree of customisation in home screen

Lag-ridden touch-screen, clunky user interface, mediocre multimedia features

With no standout feature and a difficult user interface, the TG01 can't stand up to similarly specced smartphones

Samsung Jet

Samsung's 'iPhone killer' Jet comes into land with an array of features for an affordable price…

The AMOLED screen sparkles and enriches everything from viewing your photos to watching your movies

The on-board GPS left us reeling and nervous to use it for anything more than a rough 'guestimate' to your exact location

A gorgeous looking device with plenty going on under the bonnet.

Nokia 6700 Classic

Does the Nokia 6700 Classic live up to the sky-high expectations set by its predecessor or does its mid-range status ultimately hold it back?…

In both variants, the Nokia 6700 Classic is a smart looking handset

Getting a GPS satellite fix required a degree of patience

An excellent mid-range phone with a host of features, all of which perform at a competent level.

Samsung i8910 Omnia HD

Samsung's i8910 HD is the first phone to record video in high definition and it packs power and sheer beauty in equal measure…

Beautiful display, excellent touch-screen, top-notch video and still camera, and surround sound

No dedicated app store, landscape-only keyboard, and abysmal battery life

A powerful media phone that is just slightly let down by imperfect web and user interface features.

Apple iPhone 3GS

Apple fends off all takers with its third and most powerful mobile yet. Behold the iPhone 3GS…

Often replicated, never bettered, the Apple remains the daddy of the touch-screen world

While it has certainly been improved, the camera remains the iPhone's Achilles heel

Building on the success of its predecessors, the iPhone 3GS raises the bar even higher.

Sony Ericsson W995

Combining the Walkman and Cyber-shot brands into one handset is an excellent idea by Sony Ericsson, and it certainly has the looks to boot…

3.5mm audio jack, excellent audio quality, effective equalisers and integrated BBC iPlayer

Converting videos is slow at 30 minutes or more, no DivX/Xvid video support, screen doesn't support widescreen format, image stabiliser is ineffective, and video recording is limited to WQVGA

Combining the Walkman and Cyber-shot brands into one handset is an excellent idea by Sony Ericsson, and it certainly has the looks to boot. The Media Go software needs work though, and it is this that lets the handset down.

Sony Ericsson W995

Does Sony Ericsson's W995 mark a shift towards home media access for mobile phones, or is this a half-hearted attempt at a technology still in its infancy? …

3.5mm audio jack (finally), excellent audio quality, effective equalizers and integrated BBC iPlayer

Converting videos is a chore at 30 minutes or more, no DivX/Xvid video support, screen doesn't support widescreen format, image stabilizer ineffective, video recording limited to WQVGA

A good effort at the ultimate media phone, but it can't stand up to smartphones that promise the same thing as well as offering more juice and larger, brighter displays.
