Motorola i730 ( Nextel)

Review summary Catering to largely business clientele, Nextel's past handset lineup has consisted mostly of bulky candy bar-style phones with monochrome screens and a basic, albeit solid, design. But as Nextel's Direct Connect Push To Talk (PTT)...

Integrated speakerphone; bright color display; durable design; stores and syncs contacts via an online Nextel account.

Hefty; cluttered navigation keys.

This Nextel mobile sports a more stylish design than most of its predecessors, but it's still just as heavy.

"Excellent sound quality and reliable calling"

I prefer this phone and service to all other voice services I have ever tried.

This model provides excellent sound quality for voice and PTT. The calling in and out is extremely reliable. I prefer this network because of it's proven durability over time. I have used most of the phones features.

Wish it had a high speed data chip for web browsing and e-mail. Still waiting for a Nextel phone with wifi or some other service.

"time-tested"

I have had the Motorola I730 for going on three years now. The price I paid ($130)was a bit steep when compared to the Motorola I475 (less than $100), but I am glad that I did. My fiance has gone through two I475's, and is on her second camera phone,...

"Good basic phone."

Over all, the phone works pretty good. Direct Connect with NEXTEL is clear. Phone has excellent speaker phone. Easy to to use keypad. I had a Nokia prior to this phone and the keypad was maddening! I recommend this unit to anyone looking for a basic,...

Once you learn the system, it's very esy to use. Very low learning curve...most of the features are intuitive.

Battery door is extremely difficult to remove. I had to use a knive to pry the back off after releasing the catch.

"Hard to describe just how bad it is"

I joined CNET just to pass on how bad this product is. I've had the insides replaced 3 times to try to fix the reception problem. Even in major metropolitan cities 3 bars is about as good as you'll get. I've been standing next to other Nextel customers...

It looks nice

Terrible reception, firmware problems

"next to best phone"

This is a very high-quality phone. I like it because the clearest speakerphone of all cell phones and has a very colorful clear picture.

The screen should be a little bigger.

"Porbably the worst phone I've had!!"

The phone has a lot of options and some good Java Applications.

The phone consistenly cuts out during conversations. It always loses reception. I've replaced the phone 4 times. Yes 4 times and my wifes once. Even the Nextel repair centers know this phone is a big problem. When my contract is up I'm leaving Nextel.
