Motorola MOTOLUXE Preview

Motorola has been pushing the high-end in Android phones for a while now, coaxing early-adopters out of their shells with LTE marvels like the DROID RAZR and the DROID 4, but the MOTOLUXE shows it hasn't forgotten the entry-level market. Solid and...

Motorola has a reasonably wide remit for the MOTOLUXE, targeting it at developing markets in addition to low-cost contract and pre-pay customers elsewhere. If you're buying a phone with an agreement - and thus a subsidy - there's a solid argument to be...

Motorola Motoluxe review

There's more to Android than high-end devices, as we take a look at Motorola's entry-level MotoluxeOn the European side of the Android world, Motorola hasn't really made the same im...

The rear 8MP camera is pleasantly surprising though. It isn’t in the same league as HTC’s 8MP cameras on the One series, but for a budget orientated device it’s not bad at all. Low light performance isn’t too hot, but in well lit conditions it produces...

Poor hardware meets dull design in this middling Android 2.3 smartphone

Wi-Fi hotspot capable ; DNLA streaming ; Rubber chassis ; 4-inch screen

Poor camera ; 800MHz processor ; Boring design ; Lags during navigation ; Only 1GB internal memory

We've established that the Motorola Motoluxe is no real fashion accessory.

Motorola Motoluxe review

The Motorola Motoluxe is an entry-level device, despite Motorola positioning the handset as a fashionista accessory. As such, it lacks the high-end features and specs you'll find on many handsets, but in return it won't cost you an arm and a leg to buy.

Battery life, 4-inch display is generous at this price, compact

Poor camera performance, Motorola's tinkering could be more flexible, a little underpowered

If you're on a budget, but want to look like you aren't, then the Motoluxe with it's larger-than-average screen will likely tempt you. The camera isn't great, which is annoying, but good battery life and a likeable design mean it's worthy of...

Motorola Motoluxe review: Hands-on

The Android Gingerbread-powered Motorola Motoluxe smartphone is the latest mid-range handset to join the party, but does it bring anything new to the table?

Mid-range smartphones can vary greatly from cheapo budget handsets to phones that are only a few steps down from being top-tier phones.

Motorola Motoluxe review

The received wisdom in some Android-loving circles is that iPhones are for those concerned more with style than substance. The response from fans of Apple's smartphone would be that Android handsets are poorly made substitutes for those who cannot...

Place the Motorola Motoluxe next to a Samsung Galaxy S3 or an iPhone 4S and it shapes up poorly. It packs middling specs and fair-to-middling performance into a stylish frame. But if you want a decent Android smartphone at a reasonable price, you could...

Motorola Motoluxe review

Despite harbouring allusions of grandeur, the Motorola Motoluxe struggles to live up to its name. On the outside it's appealing enough, but the user experience is less than stellar and there are better phones out there for less money.

Attractive design ; Large screen

Weak hardware ; No Android Ice Cream Sandwich ; Camera is poor

In many respects, the Motoluxe is quite a confused product. The appealing aesthetics and 8-megapixel camera hint at top-level aspirations, but the 800MHz processor and lack of Android 4.0 bring Motorola's latest blower down to earth with a bump.

Motorola Motoluxe

With a 4in screen and 8MP camera this is a surprisingly capable budget Android smartphone.

Smart design and good build quality ; Large and high-res screen for its price ; 8MP camera with dedicated button

Too sluggish in general use ; Camera not as good as you'd hope ; Interface is fine but nothing special

It's great to see a removable battery cover on the back, but it is a little bit too removable. On a couple of occasions we knocked the phone from a coffee table and sofa onto the carpet and the panel pinged off. Clearly one shouldn't drop a phone if...
