Nokia 5140

Quirky features; sturdy design; speakerphone; solid call quality; support for EDGE.

Small display; buttons are not very tactile.

The Nokia 5140 wins points for originality, but its design will stymie frequent cell phone users.

Nokia 5140

Nokia faces off against Nextel with the new Nokia 5140, a Swiss Army knife of a phone that can do everything but light your campfire. Alas, this cool phone is still a bit of a work in progress: The phone hardware supports push-to-talk walkie-talkie...

Small and rugged. Unique outdoorsy features. Stellar 9-hour battery life

Push-to-talk and IM functions don't work yet. Buttons can be hard to press

Nokia 5140i

Despite the fairly basic specifications, we rather like the Nokia 5140i. Even if you're not interested in sporting activities, this is a good value handset that should survive real life and do everything that most people will ever need.

Push-to-talk has finally come to GSM, thanks to Nokia and their new 5140 handset. Following a move from Motorola to bring PTT to CDMA, Nokia's update of the rugged 5100 will also allow for PTT.

"Great outdoor phone"

This is a sturdy outdoor phone for active people. I've taken this phone jogging, treking, and biking, and it did not waver in its performance. I like its wrist strap feature, which makes it accessible in nearly every activity. It even survived a brief...
