BlackBerry 8820

Ostensibly designed for business users who can't have a cameraphone in the workplace, the BlackBerry 8820 is, in fact, a consumer-friendly device that includes one major upgrade over its predecessor, the 8800: Wi-Fi. And while this addition allows for...

Wi-Fi; best mobile device for email

Data only on Wi-Fi so no VoIP; no 3G

The 8820 delivers plenty of value, but people who often travel overseas should also consider the BlackBerry 8830 (which operates on the CDMA network in the United States but allows for roaming on GSM networks). That device, however, lacks Wi-Fi. And...

BlackBerry 8820 (AT&T)

The addition of Wi-Fi makes the RIM BlackBerry 8820 an even more powerful communication device for business users, taking it beyond just e-mail and phone calls.

The RIM BlackBerry 8820 is the first BlackBerry to offer integrated Wi-Fi. The smart phone continues to offer Bluetooth, GPS, and push e-mail capabilities as well as push-to-talk and multimedia functions. We were also impressed by the long talk-time...

There's no 3G support and no option for a camera version. The QWERTY keyboard can be slippery, and the device uses a proprietary instant messaging client

RIM BlackBerry 8820 (T-Mobile) PDA/Cell Phone

This solid business phone gets a boost from the addition of voice over Wi-Fi.

Excellent e-mail handling ; Support voice over Wi-fi

No camera ; Voice over Wi-fi and GPS rcost extra

The 8820 is available from T-Mobile for $350 with a two-year contract. If you're in the market for an excellent messaging phone that has strong business features, this one is worth considering

BlackBerry 8820 (T-Mobile version)

I liked the BlackBerry 8820 for the AT&T network when it debuted last fall. I also liked T-Mobile's HotSpot@Home service when I tested it on the BlackBerry Curve 8320, because it allows you to make voice calls over Wi-Fi. So it stands to reason that I...

Excellent e-mail handling ; Support voice over Wi-fi

No camera ; Voice over Wi-fi and GPS rcost extra

A solid business phone that lets you make calls over Wi-fi.

T-Mobile BlackBerry 8820

This business-savvy smart phone delivers landline-quality calls over Wi-Fi, but its cellular performance could be better.

Wi-Fi–calling capability ; Large keyboard ; Accurate GPS

Some calls didn't connect ; 2.5mm headphone jack ; No camera

In general, we like the T-Mobile BlackBerry 8820 because of its HotSpot @Home support and comfortable keyboard, and we appreciated the accuracy of BlackBerry maps using the phone’s built-in GPS. However, the AT&T version comes with more included...

BlackBerry 8820 (T-Mobile)

Spring has arrived and the flowers are blooming, and apparently so are the BlackBerrys. Just last week, RIM released the BlackBerry Pearl 8120 for AT&T, and now T-Mobile is getting the RIM BlackBerry 8820. It isn't the freshest model on the market; in...

The RIM BlackBerry 8820 for T-Mobile brings the addition of Wi-Fi and support for the carrier's HotSpot@Home service. The smartphone continues to offer solid e-mail functionality and Bluetooth, GPS, and multimedia capabilities

The BlackBerry 8820 doesn't include the improved Web browser found on newer BlackBerrys, so there's more work involved in navigating pages. The handset is slightly bulky, and we wish it was equipped with a 3.5mm headphone jack

The RIM BlackBerry 8820 one-ups the BlackBerry 8830 and offers T-Mobile business customers a well-connected smartphone with the addition of Wi-Fi.

RIM BlackBerry 8820

The new BlackBerry 8820 for AT&T adds three varieties of Wi-Fi to an already great e-mail handheld. In fact, this communicator's other attributes are so good that after my testing period, I was left wondering what benefits Wi-Fi abilities really offer....

Great combination of e-mail efficiency, GPS, media, and no camera (that's a plus for business folks). Wi-Fi.

No 3G. No stereo Bluetooth. Not quite sure what to use the Wi-Fi for.

The BlackBerry 8820 pumps up the businesslike BlackBerry 8800 with largely useless Wi-Fi. We'd rather have had 3G, but, hey, we're not going to turn down free Wi-Fi, and neither should you.

RIM BlackBerry 8820 WIFI

The BlackBerry 8820 is RIM's first foray into integrated Wi-Fi, and sometimes it even works. The 8820 is nearly identical in every way to the well-received

Still has the top-notch e-mail system we know and love. Excellent, roomy keyboard. Integrated GPS is a category killer. MicroSD slot for media files

Still no camera. Still no 3-G. Web page rendering is ugly. Wi-Fi is buggy; scanning for access points takes an eternity. Beware the fine print: “Not all BlackBerry plans support Wi-Fi access to BlackBerry services

BlackBerry 8820 Review

The first Wi-Fi-enabled BlackBerry offers moderately faster data speeds along with GPS navigation and improved multimedia features.

Built-in Wi-Fi, Very good GPS navigation, Long battery life, Supports AT&, T Music services, Stereo Bluetooth

Wi-Fi has limited applications, No built-in camera

BlackBerry 8820

The exterior of the new BlackBerry 8820 may look familiar. After all, the device has the same sleek black design as the BlackBerry 8800, which was launched earlier this year. The new phone has one important upgrade under the hood, however: Wi-Fi.

Supports Wi-Fi ; Built-in GPS

Lacks a camera

Wi-fi support is data-only, but it adds to the appeal of this excellent phone.
