Samsung Rugby Pro ( AT&T)

Samsung's Rugby Pro is a buddy story between AT&T and a durable Samsung-made Android 4.0 phone. It may look tough on the outside, but there's heart and brainpower within. The Pro joins the "Rugby" team -- which also includes the Samsung Rugby Smart ,...

Samsung's Rugby Pro has stellar call quality, push-to-talk support, NFC, a speedy processor, and a decent 5-megapixel camera.

It doesn't look or feel all that durable, and the back panel popped open when I threw the handset.

Samsung's Rugby Pro makes a good, affordable choice for people seeking a more rugged smartphone, but it won't satisfy those who need an ultradurable frame.

Samsung Rugby Smart review

Not every smartphone stakes its claim on speedy processors, huge gorgeous screens or slim and sexy physiques. Some take a relatively modest set of specs

Solidly built, relatively sleek design ; Best choice in its niche ; Long battery life ; Decent photo quality

Frustratingly slow ; Not all bloatware is uninstallable

The Rugby Smart is clearly the best option in its class. Unfortunately, being the top rugged smartphone doesn't mean much.

Samsung Rugby Smart ( AT&T)

Personally, I'm not too keen on rugged devices. I don't live a tough enough lifestyle to justify owning one (except that time I wrestled a 6-year-old over the last bear claw), and as CNET's Brian Bennett so accurately put it, finding one that doesn't...

The Samsung Rugby Smart's rugged but slim design can withstand a dunking and a slam against the wall. Its camera comes with many features, and images and videos look great on the Super AMOLED screen.

The Rugby Smart's voice quality is a little muffled and the camera's autofocus feature isn't the fastest.

The Samsung Rugby Smart can take plenty of punches, without skimping on the smartphone features. Unlike other rugged phones, it's easy on the eyes and it can run on 4G.

Samsung Rugby SGH-A837 ( AT&T)

For a long time, Sprint Nextel has had a lock on rugged cell phones with push-to-talk capability, but with the new Samsung SGH-A837, AT&T is trying to get back in the game. The SGH-A837, aka the Rugby (presumably because it can take a lot of blows), is...

The Samsung Rugby SGH-A837 has a durable, easy-to-use design with an excellent feature set that includes 3G support, push-to-talk, and GPS. Photo quality is excellent.

The Samsung Rugby SGH-A837's call quality was a bit uneven and streaming-video quality was disappointing. Also, it uses a proprietary headset jack and it lacks voice dialing.

The Samsung Rugby SGH-A837's could use a few improvements, but it remains a solid choice for a rugged, straight-forward phone with a loaded feature set.

Samsung Rugby Smart Written Review by Sydney

If you're rough on your phone and need one that can withstand the torture, then there are just a few options available to you. The Samsung Rugby Smart is one of them, and really, it's one of the most inexpensive phones in a category that tends to...

Mildly durable; radiant Super AMOLED display; great battery life; smooth performance; front-facing camera

Not the most durable phone - good for active lifestyles but not rugged lifestyles; small display; poor picture quality from camera; inconsistent and slow 4G speeds

It may not be the best phone for those who have rugged lifestyles, but for those of you with slippery hands and messy kids, it should do just fine.

Samsung Rugby Review

The Samsung Rugby SGH-A837 holds on like a real champ as AT&T's one and only rugged phone in the PTT series. Even though the phone needs an update or changes on some of its features, the Samsung Rugby is still a fine choice phone for calling and...

In spite of the fact that the Samsung Rugby needs to include some more corporate features, it is still a very rugged phone with unique calling features, a good GPS service and satisfactory Web browser. Hold it under a running faucet or hit it with a...

Samsung SGH-a837 Rugby torture test

AT&T's Samsung SGH-a837 Rugby claims to have been tested again Military Standard MI-SID-810F to withstand vibration, rain, humidity, solar radiation, dust, and extreme temperatures. That's all well and good but the folks at MobileBurn.com wanted to see...

"Why have durable if it doesn't work"

I asked for the most durable phone in the store when I bought this phone, I got what I asked for but was not prepared for the down side. The phone loses connection, and even after the signal comes back, it will not regain connection. My local store has...

Durable enough for my harsh work environment

Loses signal and will not regain till power is cycled, sometimes several off/on's required

Samsung Rugby SGH-A837 - black (AT&T)

I must agree with those who judge this phone to be "junk." More than that, I'm shocked at the unwillingness of AT&T to make it good.

Solid build; predictive text; easy to add words to text memory; good sound

See above: the "send" button works only intermittently. The screen slides back to the home-screen, making it necessary to click on Messaging, then on Out box, then on Re-send. "Re-send" always works! Yay! But the ten steps to "Send" is infuriating
