Review: Samsung Galaxy S 4G

With mobile handsets stuck in a pattern of incremental updates, at least Samsung's Galaxy S 4G is an example of baby steps done right.

Stronger iteration of a solid design. Mostly smooth navigation thanks to a humming 1-GHz processor. Great call quality. Awesome battery life and power management. Gorgeous high-def 720p video (in well-lit environments). Ready for downloads and app-tion...

Accessing the movie storefront requires a tedious login process. Bloatware aplenty. Where’s my HDMI out? HSPA+ service is fantastically fast (where available). 4G to 3G to EDGE handoffs are often slow. White backgrounds often produce the dreaded...

Samsung Galaxy S 4G review

It's only been six months since Samsung launched its highly successful Galaxy S assault upon the US market with a series of carrier customized phones:

Gorgeous display ; Impressive camera ; Solid overall performance

Average battery life ; Looks and feels cheap ; Froyo instead of Gingerbread

Samsung Galaxy S 4G (T-Mobile)

The Samsung Galaxy S 4G is a refinement of the popular Vibrant on T-Mobile to include 4G capability, Android 2.2, and a front-facing VGA camera.

Slim design. Gorgeous screen. Very fast 4G HSPA+ data speeds. Excellent music and video. Solid battery life.

Buggy TV app. Only a modest refresh over the Vibrant.

Samsung Galaxy S 4G

As a part of its aggressive 4G plans, T-Mobile launched a 4G version of the popular Samsung Galaxy S phones. But unfortunately, the Galaxy S 4G ($200 with a two-year contract from T-Mobile; price as of 3/1/11) does not have the specs of the hot...

HSPA+ is fast ; Gorgeous Super AMOLED display ; Attractive design

No camera flash ; 4G connectivity is hit-or-miss

The Samsung Galaxy S 4G is a solid, powerful phone, but it doesn't have the specs to compete with the next generation of smartphones.

Samsung Galaxy S 4G (T-Mobile)

A speedy data connection and lots of entertainment options make this Android phone an excellent choice for T-Mobile customers.

The Galaxy S 4G delivers the fastest speeds yet for T-Mobile customers and adds some welcome enhancements, including a front-facing camera and longer-lasting battery. While we wish Samsung had also included a faster processor for $199, this is now the...

Samsung Galaxy S Review

The Android smartphone segment keeps getting stronger, and the Samsung Galaxy S looks set to be a key player in 2010. Not only does it get the company's coveted Super AMOLED display, but a 1GHz processor, 720p HD video recording and plenty of wireless...

Samsung Galaxy S 4G Review

Last summer was a watershed moment for Android. The HTC EVO 4G, Motorola DROID X and Samsung Galaxy S lineup dominated the cellular landscape and rightfully so. The Samsung Vibrant was the Galaxy S variant for T-Mobile and was the first Galaxy S phone...

Samsung Galaxy S 4G Review

There's no such thing as the perfect phone. Just like computers a few years ago, it seems like as soon as you walk out of the store with a new phone, there's something even newer, even better, and for less that just came out. So picking a good phone...

Screen is wonderfully vibrant and colorful. One of the best for viewing media ; 4G is fast and doesn't kill battery life ; Handset design is top-notch in all ways: solid hardware, snappy software, and a powerful camera

T-Mobile's mediocre coverage will make this handset less appealing for those outside of high-density populations ; Speakerphone produces sharp sounds, not comfortable to use

Samsung Galaxy S 4G Android Smartphone Review

When it comes to smartphones and wireless data services, 4G is definitely one of the hottest features today. And while various wireless service providers are touting their 4G networks and upcoming plans for 4G, there are still a relatively small number...

Fast 1 GHz Hummingbird processor ; Gorgeous 4-inch Super AMOLED touchscreen ; Thin & very lightweight ; microSD expansion slot

T-Mobile's 4G coverage is still somewhat limited ; Speed tests showed hit and miss scores

We're seeing a lot of hot phones hit the market lately. Of course, one of the most touted new features is 4G capabilities. As you can assume from its name, the Galaxy S 4G is capable of 4G speeds when a 4G connection is available from T-Mobile's HSPA+...
