Samsung I5700 Galaxy Spica review: Stars serving Eclairs

Samsung had a slow start in Android but they are focused on redeeming themselves with some serious high-end devices. But the All-star team is certainly not leaving anyone behind and the Spica just got its 2.1 update...

Quad-band GSM/GPRS/EDGE support ; 3G with HSDPA, 3.6 Mbps ; Android OS v2.1 Eclair, upgraded from v1.5 Cupcake ; 3.2" capacitive touchscreen of HVGA resolution ; 800 MHz CPU ; 3.15 megapixel autofocus camera ; Wi-Fi 802.11 b/g and GPS receiver ;...

Inadequate sunlight legibility ; No ambient light and proximity sensors ; Erratic performance under Android 2.1 (noticeable lag in some apps) ; No Live Wallpapers ; No 3D view in the gallery ; No preloaded document viewer ; No multi-touch support ; CIF...

Devices like the I9000 Galaxy S and the I8520 Beam certainly have the lead but it's down to the foot soldiers to clean up the mess when super AMOLEDs, Snapdragon and WVGA projectors leave the scene

Samsung Galaxy Spica (i5700)

On the surface the Spica looks like a very competent smartphone, but we're beginning to expect a lot more from manufacturers that take on Google's OS.

Good functionality, good touchscreen response ; excellent OS and interface

First Looks: Samsung Galaxy Spica i5700

We take a look at Samsung's latest Android-based offering, the Samsung Galaxy Spica i5700, a decent all-rounder that caters to both on-the-go working and networking.

It is also appropriate for social networking and surfing so if you are looking for an all-rounded mobile with decent performance, it's a device you can count on. For the multimedia fanatics however, we recommend the older brother, the i7500.

Samsung I5700 Galaxy Lite

Very similar in specification to the existing Samsung I7500 Galaxy, the I5700 seems to be a pretty conventional Android device overall.

Samsung Galaxy Spica (I5700) touch screen smartphone

Google Android is a powerful piece of software with huge potential, but currently, it has two challenges. As a new operating system, Android still has teething problems and it is still reasonably costly to manufacture a smartphone built on Android....

Battery capacity 1500mAh. Talk time up to 560 minutes on GSM, up to 370 minutes on 3G. Standby time up to 450 hours on GSM, up to 340 hours on 3G.

Samsung Galaxy Spica i5700

The Samsung Galaxy Spica i5700 is Samsung's follow up to the Samsung Galaxy. Packing a powerful 800 Mhz processor and an AmoLED screen, it's a nice upgrade for people looking for a newer phone.

The Galaxy Spica shipped originally with Android 1.5 and has since been upgraded to 2.1. It's one of the only Samsung phones left without the Touchwiz UI. So if you're looking for a Samsung phone with vanilla Android, this is the phone for you.
