Samsung M575 (black, Virgin Mobile)

I get a deja vu moment looking at the Samsung M575 QWERTY phone for Virgin Mobile. Although technically a different model than the Samsung Restore texting phone (the M570), it's almost a spitting image. Both feature phones are shaped like a capsule,...

The Samsung M575 feature phone has a spacious QWERTY keyboard and a budget prepaid price.

A thick, heavy form factor, poor speakerphone, and low-end features don't make the M575 an attractive option.

With basic features and a repeat of a thick design, the Samsung M575 feels clunky and outdated.

Samsung Restore SPH-m570 (black, Virgin Mobile)

Samsung was one of the first cell phone manufacturers to jump on the eco-friendly bandwagon with the Samsung Blue Earth , which has solar panels on its back, and the Samsung Reclaim , which is partially made out of recycled materials. The Samsung...

The Samsung Restore is made out of recyclable materials, has a solid slider design, and includes features such as a 2.0-megapixel camera, a music player, a 3.5mm headset jack, and EV-DO Rev. 0.

The Samsung Restore's camera doesn't take very good pictures and its call quality needs to be improved.

The Samsung Restore is a great eco-friendly option if you want a full-featured multimedia messaging phone on Sprint.

Samsung Restore SPH-M570 (Sprint)

The Restore features Samsung's now-ubiquitous One Click menu system, which includes a customizable strip of icons along the bottom of the screen. Text messages are threaded, and the Restore sends and receives texts quickly and easily. You can also...

Attractive design. Comfortable keyboard. Clear voice calls. Loud speakerphone. Plenty of green cred

Poor reception. Hard-to-use trackpad. MicroSD card slot is underneath the battery cover. Balky, poor-sounding music player app

The Samsung Restore gives Sprint subscribers a solid messaging phone, but its poor reception and lousy music playback were downers.

Samsung Restore (Virgin Mobile)

The main menu features 12 icons arranged in a grid pattern. The sluggish Access NetFront 3.5.1 browser is fine for WAP pages. But loading the desktop CNN site took about four minutes, and the results looked horrendous. The Social Networking icon...

Attractive design. Roomy QWERTY keyboard. Good call quality. Punchy speakerphone

Middling reception. Sluggish Web browser. Buggy, mediocre camera. Useless camcorder

The Samsung Restore is a decent texting phone for Virgin Mobile, but it's a little buggier than the Sprint version.

Review: Samsung Restore

Samsung tries a green QWERTY slider to woo environmentalists.

Solid build ; Comfortable, large keyboard ; Eco-friendly design ; 50 price ; Basic multitasking

Simply too small a display ; Sub-par call quality ; Mediocre camera ; Over-sensitive controls ; Social and GPS apps not really effective

Hardware designThe Restore is available in two colors: Limeade Green and Midnight Blue. Our review unit came in Limeade, which is appropriate considering the eco-friendly focus of the phone. The device itself is made from 77 percent recycled ma
