Samsung Rugby II SGH-A847 (black, AT&T)

Stick with what works" appears to be Samsung's theme with the Rugby II for AT&T. In both design and features the Rugby II, aka the SGH-A847, is nearly identical to Sammy's first Rugby phone. You'll find they both share the same rugged design and a...

The Samsung Rugby II has a durable, comfortable design and a solid feature set. It builds on its predecessor by adding voice dialing and by performing better

The Rugby II has a nonstandard headset jack and Samsung hides the memory card slot behind the phone's battery

The Samsung Rugby II improves on its predecessor and delivers a functional, rugged phone with satisfying performance.

Samsung Rugby II SGH-A847 (AT&T)

This isn't really a messaging or Internet phone, but the Rugby II still has a few useful tricks. Fitness fans will like AllSport GPS, which acts as a portable trainer for cyclists and runners. AT&T Navigator offers voice-enabled, turn-by-turn...

Solid, rugged construction. Excellent voice quality. Loud speakerphone

Earpiece could be louder. Too much bloatware

The Samsung Rugby II is an excellent choice for voice-focused consumers, field workers and bargain hunters alike, with its excellent call quality and sensible pricing on AT&T.

Samsung Rugby II

The aptly named Samsung Rugby II (A847) is an update/refresh to the SGH-a837. Built to withstand shock, dust, rain, humidity, solar radiation, vibration and altitude and temperature extremes, it most definitely is rugged. Improvements over the SGH-a837...

Review: Samsung Rugby II

Samsung builds a polished rugged flip phone.

Very durable ; Great call quality ; Excellent volume ; Fast UI ; Long battery life

Feels old next to smartphones ; Not great for the web or camera use

Hardware and durabilityThe Rugby II is about the size that most flip phones were about three to four years ago (before Motorola introduced the first RAZR and made thin phones popular). The thick clamshell phone is built with a rubberized plastic

"Great, rugged phone."

This phone is fantastic. I "down-graded" from an HTC smart phone that crapped out on me, and I'm very happy. If you want a good phone that will last, and if you only plan to use it for calling and texting, then the Rugby II is a good bet. Also, the...

Tough as hell, feels built to last.

Screen could be bigger.

"A lot to improve on for speaker-phone department..."

THis phone now belongs to my wife as she is a classic "technophobe" living in the 50's tonight. She is very adverse to the touchscreen units, Blackberry's are worse as the keys are the size of a pin head. Her emphasis is not on social media-just rock...

Decent battery life,

Sounds very tinny on speaker-phone and I get a headache,

"i went back to my RUGBY I"

i went back to my RUGBY I becuse of the text problem. i am a big texter so having to send every text twice gets very bothersome. if and when at&t comes out with the RUGBY III i would probly get it buy as for now my RUGBY I is the way to go.

I really liked the sleek design with the hard military grade plastic skin. The large external speaker is amazing Reception is very good battery life is good.

The old one is much more durable and is actually water proof. The rugby's selling point is that it's nearly invincible but, this phone is not. Text messaging is buggy. Replies are not sent when you push "send" but instead silently stored in your outbox. Y

"Good reception & audio, but serious problems."

It's a sturdy phone with good audio & reception. However, the camera button problem is so serious that I would have done a refund the day after buying the phone, if I could have. I would not recommend the phone, due to the one serious design flaw....

Reception and audio are very good . (Telus, Ontario.) Keypad is larger than usual, good. Battery life is good.

The menus & navigation are very inferior to Nokia & Motorola, the other 2 I've owned. Confusing and counter-intuitive. The designers goofed. I can live with that, but much worse:: the exterior camera button is not recessed, & can't be disabled

Samsung Rugby II is the best mobile phone I've owned.

I would not hesitate to recommend the Rugby II to anyone, and I give Samsung and the Rugby II's designers a tip of the hat for keeping it such an excellent mobile phone. Considering that it was designed with construction workers in mind, I am lucky...

Easy enough for a little old lady to read, understand, and use ; Smart enough for the technologically advanced teenager *More fun than anyone, at any age, could ever want ; Reliable, easy, excellent voice/audio/video, great apps ; Strong as a Mac truck

Sometimes the battery is a little difficult to slip in, - the worst thing I can say ; I wanted flashy color, but it is boring black ; Despite it's sturdy, tough, slip-proof body, it will never win a beauty contest. Nor will I
