Samsung Galaxy S5690 Xcover preview: First look

The Samsung S5690 Galaxy Xcover brings a touch of class and authority to a lineup of durable dumb phones for the outdoor enthusiasts. It's arguable whether it can take as much bashing as its less sophisticated siblings, but this rugged smartphone is...

The Galaxy Xcover is Samsung’s response to Motorola, who are building their own squad of tough droids, with a 1GHz Gingerbread-powered update of their Defy due for imminent release. The Defy+ could be too strong a rival, but the rugged credentials will...

Samsung GALAXY Xcover Preview

Although we've heard more than a few stories of smartphones surviving all kinds of abuse – being dropped from a plane, baked in an oven, or ran over by a car, to name a few examples, they are pretty vulnerable devices in general. The Samsung GALAXY...

Samsung Galaxy Xcover is rugged, runs Gingerbread

We hadn't seen a rugged Galaxy phone from the house of Samsung till now. The Xcover carries with it the promise to fight dust, dirt and water (up to depths of 1 meter). It is IP67 certified to prove its abilities. The phone runs Android 2.3 Gingerbread...

Tough and durable but no support.

The crashing problem happened right out of the box. If my friend had gotten it from Newegg, I have no doubt that he could have exchanged it for a good one. Other than that it is a fantastic phone, and worth the price several times over once you realize...

It is as durable and as waterproof as it claims to be. The Corning Gorilla Glass is durable and scratch resistant. The phone has survived several island vacations and more than a few drops. It is great for taking rainy day pictures when nothing else...

Crashes and reboots every few hours. Usually the display does back off after this event, but sometimes it stays on and kills the battery. My friend wanted to get this at Newegg, but they were out. The source he got it from offered no support, and...

Just received and set-up this phone. It appears to be as advertised: rugged, tight fitting, and big. So far it has performed well. No problems with this company and their service. Thanks . . .

Samsung Galaxy Xcover Extreme S5690

We all know that Samsung isn't exactly a shrinking violet when it comes to smartphones. It has a wide range of handsets, spanning all price points and covering Android, Windows Phone and even its own Bada operating system.

Looks nice ; Rugged features ; Well protected microSD card slot ; Torch function ; Gorilla Glass screen

Low screen resolution ; Some water seepage in our under the tap test ; Poor camera ; On the large side ; No Flash support

That's really not good enough for video you want to share, although videos do display well enough on the 640 x 480 screen of the handset itself. Next Page: Media
