Review: Samsung SGH-U900 Soul “Magical Touch”

Before we got our mitts on this much-hyped, 5-megapixel Korean import, we were slightly skeptical. Sure, we got to play with it a little at...

External microSD slot makes it a cinch to swap cards on the fly. Bluetooth (+A2DP). Competent image editing suite. Video Editor allows you to layer additional audio tracks. Decent facial detection. Haptic feedback can be tweaked to three different...

Bundled proprietary ear buds sound duller than Ben Stein. No Xenon flash. No GPS. No Wi-Fi. Lower-res vid clips. Proprietary headphone jack positioned on the side = hard to pocket when phones are plugged in. Noticeable screen glare when outdoors

Samsung U900

We wish it looked cooler, but then we often wish that of many in Samsung's range. Looks aside, the U900 won't disappoint people looking for a great phone matched with a good camera. HSDPA data speeds are excellent, especially for streaming media like...

Good 5-megapixel camera, Great HSDPA data speeds, Touch panel is a handy tool, Excellent lag-free performance

Samsung Soul SGH-U900 (unlocked) review:

The Samsung Soul (aka the SGH-U900) was one of the stars of this year's GSMA World Congress in Barcelona. Samsung showed it off at a big press conference, and huge banners with images of the phone covered the city, from the airport baggage claim to the...

The Samsung Soul offers an attractive, well-constructed design and a unique, intuitive navigation touchpad. Its respectable feature set includes a high-quality camera.

The Samsung Soul lacks important features like voice dialing and GPS. Its call quality wasn't completely reliable.

You won't mistake it for a smartphone, but the Samsung Soul is nonetheless an attractive and well-designed multimedia phone.

Samsung U900 Soul review: That's the spirit

One of the first things we saw landing in Barcelona for the MWC last month was a huge Samsung U900 Soul billboard. The South Korea-based company has ever since been doing everything within their powers to keep the handset in the public eye. Now...

5 megapixel camera (autofocus, face detection, wide dynamic range and image stabilization) ; 2.2" 16M-color TFT LCD display of QVGA resolution ; 3G with HSDPA (7.2Mbps) support ; Touchpad navigation ; Cool looks ; FM radio with RDS ; 128MB of shared...

Tri-band only ; Only LED flash ; Display legibility suffers under direct sunlight ; Limited browser capabilities ; QVGA video recording at most

Finally, we shouldn't forget the Soul's forerunners. Samsung U600 and U700 have their own fans, although inevitably ageing. The recently reviewed LG KF600 could also steal some customers with an InteractPad that has greater capabilities than the...

Samsung SCH-U900 review: Samsung SCH-U900

Though you wouldn't know it from its name, the Samsung FlipShot for Verizon Wireless is a redress of the carrier's earlier SCH-A990 . Also called the SCH-U900, the FlipShot offers a similar array of camera-centric features (what would you expect with a...

The Samsung FlipShot SCH-U900 has an attractive, user-friendly design, a solid feature set, and an admirable speakerphone. It also offers an excellent megapixel camera with great photo quality.

The Samsung FlipShot SCH-U900 had middling streaming-video performance, and the call quality wasn't the best we've heard on a Verizon phone. Also, the business-card reader was unimpressive.

Though it could offer better call quality, the Samsung FlipShot SCH-U900 is one of the best camera phones we've seen in a while.

Review: Samsung SGH-U900 Soul

Samsung's SGH-U900 Soul is the last device in the original Ultra series of thin cellphones. The Soul uses a unique OLED backed touchpad controller and packs a capable 5 megapixel, auto-focus camera on board. It's worth a look.

In terms of the design, Soul really convinced me, however that was so far the only positive experience - 3 out of 5 touchpad buttons stopped working after some 3months, besides the Samsung PC Studio is rather pathetic compared to Nokia PC Suite and...
