Sony Ericsson W508 review: Above the fold

The Sony Ericsson W508 walks and talks midrange though by no means does it keep a low profile. What we have here is the full Walkman package at a bargain price and the rest of the W508 specs may...

Quad-band GSM and 3G with HSDPA support ; 3.15 megapixel camera ; 2.2" 256K-color TFT display with 240 x 320 pixel resolution ; Secondary monochrome OLED external display ; Scratch-resistant surface for both displays ; Touch sensitive external music...

Camera doesn't have auto focus or LED flash ; Low-grade video recording (QVGA@15fps) ; No web browser screen auto rotate ; No document viewer

so we're sort of in for a sequel, though in Walkman flavor this time

Sony Ericsson W508 Review

One of the few clamshell devices adding to the Walkman series, Sony Ericsson W508 makes a good impression at first glance. As a mid-range handset, the phone's data sheet is feathered with standard features that are mostly used in this kind of handsets....

Some of the best features of the phone are multimedia-related, but also regard the connectivity ones (such as HSDPA) and battery, which has a very high lifetime. The design of the phone is also nice, but the size should be much more reduced. The sound...

Contrary to what I thought, the size of the phone does matter, but only when the phone is folded. That is one of the negative sides of the phone, the huge size of the device. Also, the low quality of the module camera, as well as the low speed of the...

Sony Ericsson W508

If you're in the market for an extremely stylish, unusual multimedia cell phone, the Sony Ericsson W508 is an excellent choice. This phone is funky and fun with Style Up covers that allow users to change the overall color and pattern of the phone's...

Stylish and attractive ; Highly customizable ; 3.2 megapixel camera ; Walkman phone ; Picture and video blogging feature available

Not the phone for those seeking simplicity ; Not many functions that more sophisticated smartphones have

This is a nice cell phone with a cool, interactive feel. It has tons of great features and web access, making it versatile for the more experienced user. In addition, Sony Ericsson has over 8 interchangeable covers to choose from, so you can match the...

'Sony Ericsson\x92s latest Walkman W508a flip phone boasts an excellent display'

'The Sony Ericsson W508a follows a similar lead to previous, mid-range Walkman mobile phones. It\x92s relatively inexpensive, best described as solid and has an excellent display. It won\x92t wow you with its features list, but it doesn\x92t need to.'

Internal and external displays, gesture control, TrackID, Walkman software, 1GB M2 card included

'Touch sensitive music controls aren\x92t responsive enough, keypad is flat and uncomfortable, no 3.5mm headphone jack'

Sony Ericsson W508 Review

"The Sony Ericsson W508 also features gesture control, allowing you to mute incoming calls by swiping your hand over the phone."

With a FastPort charger/headphone socket you'll need an adaptor to use any non-Sony Ericsson headphones with the Sony Ericsson W508 and its memory can be expanded by an extra 16GB using the M2 memory card slot.

Sony Ericsson W508

The W508 is a great phone for listening to music and playing games, but it's yet another Walkman phone from Sony Ericsson that doesn't really standout from the pack.

Convenient music player ; Very good battery life

Caller's voice isn't discernible ; MP3 controls are initially slow ; Some gimmicky features

Editor's note: Sony Ericsson sent us another phone to review as the original phone we reviewed was buggy. Audio quality was decent in the new handset, with voices sounding natural. Should you have a problem similar to the one we experienced, we highly...
