Sony Xperia E1 review: Enter Walkman

Back in 2012, the simple and affordable Xperia E was targeting youths and first-time smartphone users. Two years later and out of elementary school, the Xperia E1 has more screen size and brain power to stay afloat in the rough waters of junior high....

Quad-band GSM/GPRS/EDGE and -band UMTS support ; 7.2 Mbps HSDPA and 5.76 Mbps HSUPA ; 4" 16M-color capacitive TFT touchscreen of WVGA resolution (480 x 800) ; Android OS v4.3 Jelly Bean, KitKat confirmed but not yet scheduled ; Dual-core 1.2 GHz...

Fixed-focus camera, No LED flash ; Poor video recording ; No front-facing camera ; 512 MB of RAM

What's not to love about well-made affordable smartphones with a distinct feature that's not only marketable but adds character too? We don't mind aggressively priced either. Which the Sony Xperia E1 clearly is. It's built to a budget, but not a lazy...

Sony Xperia E1 Smartphone Review

It's got the beat. Sony's Xperia E1 is a Walkman with many settings options. It comes in a flashy plastic casing, a 4-inch TFT screen, and an entry-level SoC from Qualcomm besides 4 GB of flash memory. An included headset reinforces the portable...

Sharp and responsive screen, Speech quality, Headset included, Battery power saving mechanisms + runtimes, Build, Though the speaker is very loud..., The good music player with direct access via a dedicated button, and the battery runtime

it soon overdrives and is treble-heavy, Tight internal storage, Not App2SD capable, Moderate camera unit, No front-facing camera, Slightly cheap-looking plastic, but very robust, A higher-quality appearance and a better camera

Sony Xperia E1 Review

The Sony Xperia E1 is among the first members of the ultra-affordable family of Android smartphones from 2014, bringing a newer and much more powerful system chip…

New 28nm Snapdragon 200 chip is fast for its class ; Dedicated Walkman key is a nice touch for music lovers ; LED light below display adds a fun effect ; Xperia E1 is very compact and lightweight ; Sony’s skin looks good and works smoothly ; Phone...

Underwhelming display with washed out colors, poor contrast and awful viewing angles ; Camera is sub-par, sorely lacking in detail ; Video recording borders with unusable, appears choppy ; Phone is made of very cheap plastic ; 512MB of RAM (and no...

All in all, the Sony Xperia E1 turns out to be a device that is affordable, yet offering an above average performance for its class. It will appeal to music lovers with its dedicated key for controlling music playback, but it does not offer much in...

Sony Xperia E1

The entry-level smartphone market is a crowded place these days. Sony is looking to enter the field with the Xperia E1 . With 4GB of storage, a 4-inch display, a dual-core processor and dedicated media controls, it certainly seems up to the task. How...

Sturdy design, MicroSD card support for built-in MP3 player, Excellent battery life, Walkman button

Basic camera, Weak speakers, Poor color reproduction on screen, Low storage capacity

Sony Xperia E1 Review

Walkmans have come a long way and if you're a 90s kid, you pretty much know what I'm talking about. Now evolved into a mobile device, Sony has continued to keep the Walkman brand intact and has been incorporated into their mobile devices with audio...

I find the Xperia E1 to be an excellent performer in terms of fulfilling its basic functions. Aside from calls and messaging, it’s fast enough for running your social apps and playing your favorite music. It even has 3G connectivity and basically, it...

Sony Xperia E1

Spend a little more if you can

It's cheap, Not as anonymous-looking as some budget phones, Decent custom interface

Limited screen quality, Performance and stability issues, Poor camera

Sony Xperia E1 review

Small and convenient, but there's better budget options

Low price ; Decent interface ; Good camera modes

Fairly poor, low-res screen ; Insufficient RAM ; Weak battery life

The Sony Xperia E1 is not the best phone you can get for under £100, much as Sony may claim it as best-in-class. It's small and convenient but performance issues mean there are better options out there.

Sony Xperia E1

If Motorola's bargain Moto G has proved anything, it's that cheap and cheerful is in this year, and now Sony is getting in on the affordable market with its brand new Xperia E1. With its low £99 price tag, Walkman music focus and plastic construction,...

Sony's made a valiant effort for the low-end market with its E1, but it just doesn't match up to either of Motorola's budget blowers. Even compared to the cheap Moto E, Sony's low-cost smartphone doesn't quite match-up, while you can even find the...

Sony Xperia E1 review

At the bottom of Sony's Xperia range is the E1, which aims tooffer sophisticated smartphone capability for a fraction of theprice of the high-enders.

Solid build quality, decent battery life

Sluggish processor, not waterproof

The Xperia E1 is a decently built smartphone with a reasonablerange of features for the price. The screen is good to look at,though it lets itself down a bit in the usability stakes, and it'sa shame about the sluggish processor and we only really miss...
