Review Sony Xperia M Smartphone

Pocket-sized Samurai. Sony's latest member of the Xperia series f

Quality build; Available in four colors; Comparatively strong GPU; NFC; Multi-colored message LED

Weak CPU; Middling screen; Small flash memory; Unusable webcam

There is a lot of competition in the entry-level sector. Android-based devices are, for example, Acer Liquid E2, iOcean X7, HTC Desire 500, Huawei Ascend Y300, Samsung Galaxy Ace 3 and Samsung Galaxy S3 Mini. And with the Windows Phones even flagships...

Sony Xperia M review: Morning show

Sony has made some great entry-level Android phones, but it's been a while since we saw a new model. The Xperia M injects new blood into the segment with both single and dual-SIM options. Based on the trademark Xperia design, the M scores high on looks...

Quad-band GSM/GPRS/EDGE and dual or quad-band HSPA support ; Also available in a dual-SIM variant, called Xperia M dual ; 21 Mbps HSDPA and 5.76 Mbps HSUPA ; 4" 16M-color TFT capacitive touchscreen of FWVGA resolution (480 x 854 pixels) at 245ppi ;...

Still and video camera quality not great ; No Mobile BRAVIA engine for the screen ; Screen has sub-par viewing angles ; Poor video codec support out of the box ; Limited internal storage for installing apps

Sony has had some very strong contenders at the entry level: the Xperia U was the cheapest dual-core you can get for a long time and the M is its spiritual successor. Most phones in this price range have Cortex-A5/A7 chipsets and can't shoot 720p video.

Sony Xperia M Review

The Sony Xperia M does not have the latest cream of the crop specs, but it still manages to impress with a lot of power packed in a compact good looking body…

It’s a looker - compact and stylish ; Above average performance for its class, 1GB of RAM ; Good 1750mAh battery

Average display - dim and with poor viewing angles ; Only 2GB of user available storage ; Disappointing call quality

The Sony Xperia M is a phone with good looks, streamlined user interface that we actually like, and a powerful chip for its class. Not a bad combination, is it? It has its downsides - we wish the screen was a bit better, but our biggest complaint right...

Sony Xperia M review

We can't see why you'd choose the Xperia M over its rivals

Affordable & lightweight ; Dedicated camera button ; Expandable storage ; Loud speaker

Cramped screen & keyboard ; Old Jelly Bean OS ; Mediocre camera ; Very low internal storage

Ratings in depth Sony was so intent on returning to the top of the smartphone tree in 2013 that it launched two high-end flagship devices. The Sony Xperia Z1 trailed the Sony Xperia Z by just six months.

Sony Xperia M review

The Sony Xperia M is a decent but inexpensive Android smartphone. Shop around and you can pick up an Xperia M for as little as £100, although more typically it retails for around £130, new and SIM free.

Well built and designed, and with great battery life, we can't be too harsh on the Xperia M. Performance an connectivity is good enough, but these days for this price we want better from the display and camera. Not a bad phone, but there are better...
