It's bye bye bezels for a full-screen experience

The screens on Sony's new midrange Android phones stretch right to the edge. There are sacrifices to be made, though.

Sony Xperia XA1 Review

On paper, the Xperia XA1 that we are taking for a spin is a fine upgrade over its XA predecessor, with a better camera, faster chipset, USB-C and more memory.

Sturdy design ; Simple, yet distinct and fast-moving interface ; Excellent media apps with real-time TV guide option

Steep competition at this pricing level ; Smudgy video quality ; Ho-hum call quality in the earpiece

Like all reviews, I used the Xperia XA1 Ultra as a daily phone for over a week. If I put aside the performance inadequacies for a power user like myself, the phone works well, with images that have good sharpness and saturation for social sharing. The...

Sony Xperia XA1 review

The Sony Xperia XA1 is a mid-range phone with premium styling. It's superslim and very narrow, with almost no bezels left or right of the screen. Equipped with 32GB of storage and a fast 8-core processor, it's not lacking in any department. But perhaps...

The Xperia XA1 has a lot going for it. For a phone costing just £15 a month on contract, it looks a lot more premium than it has any right to do. Performance from the Helio P20 processor is impressive, and we're pleased with the 32GB of onboard...

Sony Xperia XA1 and XA1 Ultra hands-on: two powerful mid-range devices

Sony has long been betting heavily on the mid-range range. So much so that the company was one of the first to invest in what it called the "super-mid", referring to mid-range devices that have more advanced features. Sony always bet on the design,...

In reality, Sony is actually presenting us with two powerful mid-range smartphones. The company is ready to repeat its success formula, and adds a thinner bezel. Although they may be similar, the new XA1s are clearly aimed at very specific audiences.

Sony Xperia XA1 review: A near bezel free mid-range device that improves slightly on last year's model and hopes to take on the Moto G5, Honor 6X and more

Sony Xperia XA1 review: a whole lotta pixels for not a lotta money

You'll struggle to find a better camera for this low, low price

Impressive camera ; Sleek, compact design

Relatively low-res screen ; OTT image processing

Sony Xperia XA1 review

A low price and ultra-high megapixel count

Very impressive camera for the price ; Smart, ultra-pocketable design ; Bright screen

Relatively low screen resolution ; No fingerprint scanner ; Typical Sony overbaked camera processing

If you want a slim, diminutive phone that won’t make your wallet weep, but has a good camera, the Sony Xperia XA1 is one of your best options. You can get sharper screens at the price, but the photo hardware is hard to beat.
