Sony Xperia Z1 Compact review: The best ‘mini’ Android flagship by a mile

Making a mini version of a flagship phone is the latest trend among smartphone makers and to some extent, we have Samsung to thank (or blame) for this. The reason for doing this is so that consumers can have the next best thing to the flagship, which...

At Rs 36,990, the Sony Xperia Z1 Compact is nearly the same price as the Xperia Z1, which makes it a bit too expensive. Other than the smaller form factor, there’s no reason to buy this over the Z1, which has a higher resolution display and a bigger...

Sony Xperia Z1 Compact Review

It's refreshing to see a smartphone manufacturer produce a smaller smartphone without feeling the need to scrimp on the specs. Sony's Xperia Z1 Compact retains the majority of its bigger sibling's cutting edge hardware, but fits comfortably in the...

Manageable size ; Speedy performance ; Premium design ; Waterproof and dustproof ; MicroSD support ; Battery life

Fingerprint and dust magnet ; Big bezels above and below screen ; Flaps on ports ; No selectable macro mode ; Pre-applied ASF

Sony has nailed a market segment that needs some love. The Z1 Compact is the best small smartphone running Android.

Sony Xperia Z1 Compact review: when smaller is better

For the longest time, the prevailing trend with mobile phones was to take last year's handset and make it smaller. Shave a few millimeters off, shed a couple of grams, and give users the same experience but in a leaner shell. The rise of smartphones...

Best screen on a Sony smartphone to date ; Battery is a gift that keeps on giving ; Flagship performance in a compact size ; Waterproof and built to last

Not as friendly to the palm as curvier phones ; Camera is hindered by over-processing of images ; Doesn’t ship with the latest version of Android, but does include bloatware

Sony Xperia Z1 Compact review: a good thing in a small(ish) package

Last year, Sony finally reached the end of the alphabet with its Xperia Z. It wasn't just that the company ran out of letters, though: With the Xperia Z,

Flagship-caliber specs ; Premium build quality ; Excellent performance, long battery life ; Great camera ; Improved display offers better viewing angles than older Sony handsets

More expensive than other "mini" phones ; Minor software issues

Sony has set the benchmark for mini-flagships. With strong build quality and robust performance, the Z1 Compact will be a welcome arrival for anyone who prefers smaller devices.

Sony Xperia Z1 Compact ( white)

The Sony Xperia Z1 Compact packs the same blisteringly powerful quad-core processor, 4G LTE connectivity and 20-megapixel camera as Sony's top-end Xperia Z1 . It has a 4.3-inch display, rather than the palm-stretching 5 inches of its brother, making it...

Its small size makes it comfortable to use, it has a searingly powerful processor, a good camera and decent battery life. It looks brilliant too and its waterproof design means you don't need to worry about dropping it in the bath.

It's not running the latest version of Android and some of Sony's software tweaks don't really add anything to the experience.

With its powerful processor, great camera, decent screen and gorgeous, waterproof design, the Sony Xperia Z1 Compact is the best small Android phone around.

Sony Xperia Z1 Compact hands-on: First look

We recently had the chance to get some hands-on time with Sony's new flagship in miniature, the Xperia Z1 Compact. The little fella packs flagship-grade specs into a much smaller footprint than most of today's premium smartphones.

Sony Xperia Z1 Compact Review

We don't necessarily have to view the Sony Xperia Z1 Compact as an alternative to the popular Android flagships that are currently available. There is another function that Sony's latest handset might be willing to perform, and that is to compete with...

Stylish, compact design ; Cutting-edge performance ; Great camera ; Water- and dust-resistnace (IP 58)

Relatively small display ; Minor UI issues

With the Xperia Z1 Compact, Sony has made an important move that will make its smartphone line-up considerably more approachable. The Z1 is a powerful and well-rounded product, but its imposing size meant that there will undoubtedly be a lot of people...

Sony Xperia Z1 Compact Review

Sony, really appears to have ‘gotten it' with their latest compact offering. Dust proof, water resistant, with blazing fast internals and advanced optics, the Xperia Z1 Compact stands alone as a high end yet mini offering. Check out our review of the...

Smaller phones these days tend to be what we like to call everyman and everywoman devices, in the sense that they are affordable. That’s not the case, which lives up to its flagship aspirations when it comes to its price – $570 unlocked on Amazon. But...

Sony Xperia Z1 Compact review

Sony's downsized Z1 might just be the best small Android phone you can buy For the past several years, high-end Android phones have followed the mantra of “go big or go home.” Five-plus-inch displays, once considered comically large, are now the...

The Xperia Z1 Compact delivers on a promise broken by so many other 'mini' smartphones — bringing high-end hardware into a smaller handset. Sony's latest retains the performance, aesthetics, camera, waterproof credentials and software experience of its...

Sony Xperia Z1 Compact review

Is the solution to the Z1 conundrum to make it smaller?

Flagship specs ; Waterproof ; Decent battery life

Poor bundled services ; Awful low light photography ; Glass back prone to smudges

The Sony Xperia Z1 Compact is the perfect device for those who think that some of the leading smartphones are just too big, but still want the best specs on the market.
