Sony Xperia Z5 Compact Smartphone Review

Small giant. Despite the appended word Compact, the Xperia Z5 Compact is a very good choice and very close to the larger sibling Z5. Our review will show whether users of the predecessor Xperia Z3 Compact should think about an upgrade as well.

high application performance, enduring battery runtime, good stereo speakers, bright and high-contrast screen, great user interface, modern operating system, numerous settings, high-resolution camera, 4K video recordings, fast ac-Wi-Fi and LTE,...

poor camera quality in bad lighting conditions, mediocre front camera, display with a slight blue cast, no Full-HD resolution, position of the volume rocker is not ideal, comparatively high price

The Sony Xperia Z5 Compact is a very good and compact smartphone with an impressive set of features and a powerful SoC. There are some positive aspects to consider: A current operating system and a powerful SoC with 2 GB of RAM plus 32 GB of storage,...

Sony Xperia Z5 Compact (Unlocked)

The unlocked Sony Xperia Z5 Compact is a bit pricey, but it's the best small Android phone you can buy.

One-handed, waterproof design. Fast performance. Good camera. Solid battery life.

Somewhat chunky. Relatively pricey.

Software and Conclusions The Compact updates to Android 6.0 Marshmallow upon setup. Given Sony's track record, we expect it will eventually receive an update to Android N as well.

Sony Xperia Z5 Compact (graphite black)

Rival manufacturers tend to heavily water down the specs of their "mini flagships" -- I'm looking at you, LG G4C and Samsung S5 Mini . Sony's diminutive handset, however, is as proud a flagship as the standard Z5 , containing as it does most of the...

The Sony Xperia Z5 Compact's small size makes it very comfortable to use, but without sacrificing the power and performance of a flagship phone. Its camera takes great shots and it won't die when you get it wet.

Its blocky design lacks the finesse of other flagship handsets.

By squashing powerful specs into a smaller, water-resistant body, the Z5 Compact earns the title of best "mini" Android phone.

Sony Xperia Z5 Compact Review

We don't know about you, guys, but we find great joy in reading old smartphone reviews. They don't just bring out that warm, soothing feeling of tech nostalgia. They can also be an amusing read – going back to our Sony Ericsson Xperia X10 review, for...

A compact phone indeed ; Mostly great UI and gaming performance ; Great call sound quality ; Very high screen brightness ; Good battery life

The camera is not as exciting as it seems ; Screen color accuracy could have been better ; Mediocre speaker quality

The Sony Xperia Z5 Compact is quite the unusual handset. It promises flagship-worthy features in a tight, compact package, and there’s still plenty of folks looking for that kind of phone. At the same time, there are very few alternatives fitting that...

Review: Sony Xperia Z5 Compact

Sony is offering its Xperia Z5 Compact to US buyers online. This unlocked Android smartphone works with both AT&T and T-Mobile. It offers the best of the Z5 flagship in a smaller, more affordable package. The design, materials, and build quality are...

The Sony Xperia Z5 Compact offers what few other phones do: flagship performance in a petite piece of hardware. The Z5 Compact is refined, small, and manufactured with the best materials. The glass-and-metal combo offers a premium experience, and its...

Review: Sony’s Xperia Z5 Compact is the best small Android phone you can buy

If you hate big phones and don't mind last year's hardware, this one's for you.

Flagship performance in a smaller package ; Waterproof ; Solidly built and easily pocketable ; Great battery life ; Camera is fine, if not exceptional

Old Android, albeit with the promise of newer Android eventually ; Not compatible with Verizon or Sprint in the US ; Display density, color, and brightness are all good enough, but the viewing angles aren't great ; The back is just another pane of...

So the Z5 Compact’s design has some rough edges. They’re mostly forgivable, but the Android space is so competitive that minor flaws can scuttle a flagship. Luckily for Sony, the Z5 Compact is graded on a curve—it only really has to compete with the...

Sony Xperia Z5 and Xperia Z5 Compact review

Back in September, Sony launched not one, not two, but three flagship smartphones in the Xperia series. The highest end one is still a little ways off but you can go out and buy an Xperia Z5 or Z5 Compact today. But should you? Here's our full review.

High-end hardware in a choice of sizes ; Excellent camera ; MicroSD card slot ; Super fast fingerprint scanner ; Dedicated camera button

The larger phone is awkward to hold ; The volume button placement is just odd ; Fingerprint scanner almost forces right handed use

If you're in that upgrade cycle where it's been a couple of years since your last new Xperia phone, the Z5 or Z5 Compact will be a worthy upgrade. Sure, there are frustrations aplenty throughout the hardware and software, but there's nothing inherently...

Sony Xperia Z5 Compact review

The Sony Xperia Z5 Compact offers a superphone experience in a compact form factor. With a 4.6-inch HD screen and a premium, lightweight build, the Z5 Compact is easy to handle, but delivers the power of an 8-core processor, a 23 megapixel camera with...

The Z5 Compact is the perfect phone for someone who wants a fast, capable phone with a top camera and premium build quality, but doesn't want to carry a huge slate around with them. The Z5 Compact does all this with finesse. Asked by Andrew from UK on...

Sony Xperia Z5 Compact review

The Sony Xperia Z5 Compact is the smallest of the new Z5 devices. I have been testing this 4.6 inch power house, so let's see what I found out.

Ideal for those looking for a sub five inch phone ; Flagship specifications ; IP certification ; Sony apps and extra features ; Great battery

720p display not for the spec hungry ; Small screen not optimal for some activities ; Camera doesn't live up to its hype ; Overheats when recording 4K video

Unlike other "mini" handsets, the Z5 Compact retains almost the same specs and quality as its larger siblings while giving consumers a small form factor option. It is certainly a small powerhouse, however the camera could disappoint those who were...

Sony Xperia Z5 Compact review

They're smaller but still very powerful – we love the Compact range

Compact design ; Impressive camera ; Great fingerprint sensor ; Long lasting battery

Still a 720p screen ; No wireless charging

Sony's new small form phone is the hidden gem of the Xperia Z5 range - it's just a shame there isn't a Full HD screen.
