BlackBerry Bold 9700

Boldly going where no RIM has been before

The redesigned Bold look ; Easily the most powerful ; Battery life absolutely rocks

Poor browser ; UI could do with an update

The best BlackBerry yet, building on a decent heritage of decent handsets to create a compact yet powerful phone that breaks out from the 'business only' stereotype

LG GD510 Pop

A poptart of a mobile phone

Feature packed ; Great price ; Big-ish screen

Sluggish controls ; No 3G ; Clumsy touchscreen

The LG GD510 Pop isn't a (Pop)star in the making but it does bring some nice features to the lower-end of the touchscreen market. Shame then it takes an age for the phone to do anything

HTC HD2

Windows Mobile with a touch of HTC Sense

The screen is big, beautiful and responsive ; HTC Sense UI

Poor camera ; Over-sensitive screen

We like the HD2. We like it a lot - and it becomes an especially cool device of you need to do things like email and check documents on the go, but still want a powerful media phone too.

Sony Ericsson Xperia X10

Adding another Android to the mix

At 4-inches, the touchscreen is huge, and although it's capacitive, there's no multi-touch, so no pinching to zoom. The model we saw was pre-production, so software was pretty ropey as is to be expected, but the menus did look clear and very nicely ...

Samsung SGH-X120

Samsung X120 review

By Adam Hartley

The netbook that thinks it's a well-specced laptop

Sturdy keyboard ; Performs far better and faster than similar priced netbooks ; HDMI output ; The lovely and bright high def screen

Slightly boring design ; Battery-life can be quite limiting

A good value for money, strong performing netbook that you'll be hard-pushed to beat.

Samsung Galaxy I7500

Samsung Galaxy i7500 review

By Khidr Suleman

Close but no cigar - not yet anyway

User friendly interface ; Bright and responsive screen ; Wealth of widgets and apps

Frustrating automatic lock ; Poor on-screen QWERTY keyboard ; Positioning of ports ; Short battery life

A good first effort from Samsung and had it not been for a few grumbles then the Galaxy would have been closer to the top of the smartphone pile. Not the best but a solid performer nonetheless

Sony Ericsson Satio

Sony Ericsson Satio review

By Hannah Bouckley

A few megapixels to much?

Great camera ; BBC iPlayer ; Generous screen ; MicroSD slot

No 3.5mm jack ; Noisy images ; Sometimes unresponsive touchscreen

The best cameraphone on the market, with some great features. It's a shame it's so annoying to use

BlackBerry Storm 2 9550

BlackBerry Storm 2 review

By Gareth Beavis

Updated, but is it improved?

Premium feel to it ; Slick device ; Touchscreen is a cinch to use ; Text input is almost magic in its ability to work out what you're trying to say

Poor call stability ; Unpractical screen

Certainly an upgrade for RIM, but that wasn't particularly hard from the original Storm. We like the direction the Storm range is taking, but given a choice between this and the Bold 9700, we'd plump for the latter's physical keyboard every time

HTC TATTOO

HTC Tattoo review

By Marc Chacksfield

Best-buy Android

Sense UI ; Cupcake update ; 3.5mm headphone jack

Screen not responsive enough ; Text messaging can be a problem ; PC connectivity is hard to set up

The HTC Tattoo is a great smartphone that doesn't cost the world. Packed with brilliant Android goodies, it is yet another sign that HTC is becoming one of the best makers of consumer-friendly mobile phones.
