Android on a shoe-string
The multi-faceted home screens approach ; The overall package belies its meagre (ish) cost ; Android Market to bolster its inbuilt catalogue
Lock screen system is very annoying ; No 3.5mm headphone jack ; Poor camera performance
The Pulse is a decent handset when you realise how much it costs. It's a smartphone running on an ever-improving OS, and the sheer weight of applications that will be available really helps overcome some of the inherent problems with the hardware

After flying to San Francisco in June to buy and review the US Pre, what do we think of the UK device?
Synergy ; Universal Search ; Responsive touchscreen ; Super fast ; Removable battery
Exclusive contract with O2 ; Keypad ; Battery life ; Slide mechanism ; Too-sharp edges
The Pre is a great smartphone, the first to truly rival the iPhone in functionality and design. However, the design isn't quite up to scratch, though webOS almost makes you forget about the less than ideal build quality

Moto joins the Android fray
MOTOBLUR is the most customisable Android skin yet ; Virtual keyboard is accurate and fluid ; Innumerable options for corresponding with friends
Boring-looking, cheap-feeling design ; Occasionally hit-and-miss touchscreen
The DEXT marks a new dawn for recently troubled mobile giant Motorola, putting substance way above style

Sweet as Chocolate?
Bold design ; Beautiful screen ; Sleek ; Touchscreen
Slow interface ; Annoying spinning cube navigation ; Long hub
Coming in at less than £400, the LG Chocolate is a step in the right direction from the Koreans. It's a bold design choice and we can't help but love the conkers on the Korean designers for coming up with this new Black Label handset

Bona fide gadget or gimmick?
Dinky size and weight makes us feel like we're wearing a real watch ; Battery life at three days is pretty good too
Lack of screen size means the functions are limited to basic calling, texting and a little bit of music playback No expandable memory
At £500 it's a little pricey, but we can't help but love the gadget cool factor this brings. Not one for all mobile phone lovers out there, but definitely worth a gander if you love impressing your mates down the pub
