Samsung Jet GT-S8000

Not quite as lovely as the Gladiator

Super-fast processor and decent camera; Awesome AMOLED screen and 3.5mm jack

Sluggish when flicking through album covers or scrolling through pictures; Not as slick as what we were hoping for

The Jet is a great little bit of kit with a lot of power under the diminutive hood. We love the styling (although the chassis feels a little cheap) and for a cut-price option to the iPhone, this is a top notch effort

Apple iPhone 3GS

Jobs a good one

The faster processor speeds and the upgraded camera, as well as all the extra goodies Apple has given us with the iPhone 3.0 firmware

It's a little expensive, there's still no flash compatibility on the internet browser and we'd also love a flash to take some better night photos

A brilliant piece of kit that might not be light years ahead in terms of an upgrade, but still worth choosing over the older model

Samsung i8910 Omnia HD

The world's first 720p handset arrives

The AMOLED screen; The quick and accurate touchscreen

The bulkiness of the chassis, the fiddly bookmarking and the hidden video player

Overall, the i8910 is a sublime effort from Samsung to boost its multimedia offering, with a beautiful AMOLED screen and decent storage on top of an improved touchscreen making it arguably Samsung's top phone of the year so far.

HTC Magic / T-Mobile myTouch 3G

Another incoming Android

A well-packaged phone; Better design; Upgraded interface

Slight lag at times; No headphone jack; Disappointing camera

One of the phones of 2009, and another sign that Android is going to dominate our lives in the future

HTC Touch Diamond 2

See the HTC Touch Diamond2 in fully interactive 3D 360

There's no 3.5mm jack. Instead use HTC's bundled USB headphones, or buy an adapter for as little as 99p on Ebay and use your currently favoured cans

HTC Touch Diamond 2

HTC Touch Diamond2 review

By Katherine Hannaford

WinMo fights back

Excellent camera with manual autofocus; 3D photo album; Contacts history display. Brilliant, high-res screen. Threaded messages; Generally solid

Windows Mobile dirt still lurks a few menu taps beneath the shiny TouchFlo 3D surface; Touchscreen could be more responsive; Some connectivity issues

A solid performer, and a marked upgrade from the first attempt but still lags behind the like of the G1 and the iPhone
