HTC Windows Phone 8S review: Icebreaker

No one's had any reason to question HTC's commitment to Windows Phone. The Taiwanese have been on board since the heyday of PocketPCs, helping Redmond quickly man a nascent WP7 army. Now they're back in the thick of it for the next generation of the...

Quad-band GSM/GPRS/EDGE support ; Dual-band 3G with 42 Mbps HSDPA and 5.7 Mbps HSUPA support ; 4" 16M-color S-LCD capacitive touchscreen of 480 x 800 pixel resolution ; Scratch resistant Gorilla Glass 2 display ; 5 megapixel autofocus camera with LED...

Non user-replaceable battery ; App catalog falls short of Android and iOS ; No front-facing camera ; No FM radio ; No system-wide file manager ; No voice-guided navigation

The HTC Windows Phone 8S is a likeable little handset. It clearly isn't one of the platform's headliners, but it may be the right thing to help the fresh Windows Phone 8 conquer some new territory.

Windows Phone 8S by HTC Review

HTC dug deep for its Windows Phone 8 line-up, coming out with a pair of distinctively designed smartphones that promptly earned Microsoft “Signature” status. The Windows Phone 8X already impressed us, and now it's the turn of its smaller sibling, the...

There’s no denying that HTC has crafted a good looking phone in the 8S, and the general user experience is solid. What makes it tough to recommend is the subpar camera performance and the absence of a front-facing camera; Microsoft is only going to...

HTC Windows Phone 8S review

HTC's second Windows Phone 8 device follows the same design as its bigger brother, the 8X, with a unique look and feel that's separate to the company's Android devices. It's another big bet on Windows Phone 8 for HTC and one that the company hopes will...

Unique design ; Lightweight ; Solid build quality

Low resolution display ; No forward facing camera / poor rear camera ; Some performance issues

A solid entry-level device with great design and a lightweight chassis

HTC Windows Phone 8S Review

HTC Windows Phone 8S is the company's WP8 midranger, carrying the naming scheme over from the company's One line of Android handsets. Executed in a two-tone body painted in a variety of colors, it is evidently aiming to attract the attention of the...

Catchy and ergonomic design ; microSD card slot

No front-facing camera ; Subpar outgoing calls

HTC has made a mucho sympatico handset with the 8S, shaping it in a two-tone ergonomic bod, with very easy one-handed operation. It has skimped a bit on the camera quality, and not even included one for video chat, but the rest of the readings are...

HTC 8S review

One of the first Windows Phone 8 devices, but does this mid-range handset impress?

Stylish design ; MicroSD card slot ; Great social network integration ; Good for messaging

Lacklustre battery ; Slow browser ; Only 4 GB of internal storage ; No smart dialling

HTC Windows Phone 8S review

The Windows Phone 8S has an average screen and lacks a front-facing camera but its design is appealing

Two tone polycarbonate design ; Consistent performance ; Reasonable battery life

No front facing camera ; Below average display ; Limited Windows Phone app ecosystem

The HTC Windows Phone 8S is one of the best looking smartphones on the market. It lacks a front-facing camera and the screen is merely average, but this is a compact, well designed device that offer decent value for money.

Windows Phone 8S by HTC review

With the HTC 8X taking the top spot of HTC's Windows Phone 8 collection, the HTC 8S - or Windows Phone 8S by HTC, as it's officially known - sits a step or two down from the top. It's an entry-level Windows Phone and comes at entry-level prices.

Great design, microSD card slot, Beats sounds good

Not much power on offer, relatively low resolution display, app catalogue not as extensive as rivals, camera performance isn't great

A nicely designed handset that will give you the Windows Phone 8 experience without breaking the bank. However, there's little that really excites.
