ZTE Axon Mini Premium Edition, First Take: Affordable 5.2-inch Android with pressure-sensitive screen

The Axon Mini is a well built and affordable Android 5.1 handset with a good set of features that should deliver all-day battery life for most users.

ZTE Axon Mini review

Last year's ZTE Axon and Axon Pro were a delightful surprise – nicely spec'd out smartphones with vanilla Android on board all at very competitive price points. A couple of months ago, the company launched the Axon Mini. Not to be mistaken with a...

Good design and choice of materials ; Great call quality ; Fast charging

Laggy and unintuitive interface ; A mess of features, which feel unfinished ; Low value for the price

As mentioned, the Axon Mini isn't sold in the USA. You can still buy it from 3rd party websites for around $400 before tax and shipping, but be sure to check what cellular bands the model you are buying supports.

ZTE Axon Mini Premium Edition review

The Axon Mini is a smaller variant of ZTE's flagship, but with a 5.2 inch AMOLED display and Force Touch. What is it like? Read on to find out.

AMOLED display ; Pressure-sensitive screen ; 3GB of RAM ; 32GB of internal storage ; Design by Teague

Snapdragon 616 doesn't match the rest of the specs ; Fingerprint reader can be slow ; No NFC ; Lack of 4G support for the USA

ZTE has added quite a bit of extra value with the pressure-sensitive display, the fingerprint reader and the high-end audio. The 3GB of RAM is also good to see, as is 32GB of storage. But, the processor doesn't match the rest of the specs.

ZTE Axon Mini (Premium Edition)

Chinese firm ZTE released it's standard Axon Mini in China last July. A paired-down version of the company's flagship Axon model, the Mini would never make it to market outside ZTE's home country.

Great OLED screen ; Good range of extra features

Questionable design ; Some performance issues ; Heavily skinned version of Android

ZTE Axon Mini Review: In Depth

ZTE Axon Mini review: Since the lowly Grand X back in 2012 ZTE has spent the last few years refocusing its efforts and the new ZTE Axon Mini represents a stronger brand and a more competitive…

Premium design elements ; Competent cameras ; Force Touch ; Affordable

Heavy UI ; Poorly optimised UX ; Styling quirks

At just under £230, the ZTE Axon Mini is for the most part a handset worth considering. The UI needs a lot of work and the phone as a whole could have been refined a little more before hitting the market, but it boasts respectable performance, a nice...

ZTE Axon mini boasts '3D touch,' but it's far from perfect [REVIEW]

The ZTE Axon mini Premium Edition is the only affordable choice if you want an Android with a pressure-sensing screen, but it has many imperfections.

A lot of fancy new tech ; Affordable ; Solid overall specs

Lukewarm design ; Lacks polish ; Weak processor ; Flaky fingerprint sensor and eye scanner

The ZTE Axon mini Premium Edition is the only affordable choice if you desire an Android with a pressure-sensing screen, but you'll have to live with its imperfections.
