ZTE Open C (Unlocked)

The Firefox OS-powered ZTE Open C is a rare high-quality, sub-$100 smartphone, but Windows Phone and Android are right on its tail.

Inexpensive for an unlocked smartphone. Lack of apps less relevant because every website is an "app

Very few good games. Mediocre call quality. Poor camera

The idea behind Firefox OS phones, like the ZTE Open C, is that by being pure Web phones based on open-source software from a nonprofit, they can bring a quality smartphone experience to lower price points than anyone else. It looks like Mozilla will...

ZTE Open C

How low-cost can you go and still make a smartphone? With the ZTE Open C, the answer is: pretty darn low. With its inexpensive parts, bare-bones specs, and Firefox's entirely Web-based OS, the ZTE Open C slides into eBay for an incredibly...

The ZTE Open C is ultraffordable, comes in three colors, and fits easily into pockets and purses.

Typing on the 4-inch screen feels cramped, performance is slow, and the camera lacks auto-focus. Speakerphone was virtually unusable.

Although it's one of the cheapest smartphones around, you're better off saving your money for a slightly pricier handset.

ZTE Open review: Firefox OS gets off to a modest but promising start

As the first Firefox OS smartphone, the ZTE Open is an ambassador for its platform: it's built to prove that web apps can do the hard work of their

Very simple interface ; Affordable price ; Long battery life

Sluggish performance ; Poor camera ; Few native apps

ZTE's first Firefox OS device hits the right notes for developers and some first-time smartphone owners, but others will want a more advanced handset.

ZTE Open

ZTE's Open is many things: attractive, significantly inexpensive, frustrating, underpowered, and extremely targeted to a specific audience. Apart from being one of the first commercially available phones running the inchoate (and understandably...

ZTE's Open is an attractive smartphone that represents Firefox OS's budget aspirations.

Hardware performance suffers all across the board, from image quality to the time it takes to complete a task. Call quality wasn't so hot, either.

Skip the ZTE Open and keep hunting for your low-cost smartphone, unless simplicity or Firefox development are at the top of your list.

ZTE Open (Unlocked)

We're giving the unlocked ZTE Open with the Firefox OS huge points for its very reasonable price, but the software needs more polish before it's consumer-ready.

Very inexpensive for an unlocked smartphone. Robust Web browser

Unfinished software. Dim screen. Poor camera and GPS

no DRM (and no plugins)—creates some problems for Web video. The Firefox OS has a working YouTube app, but sites like Netflix and failed to stream video because the browser couldn't handle their proprietary video plug-ins.

ZTE Open C review – $92 smartphone running Android 4.4 KitKat

The ZTE Open C is ZTE's second smartphone designed specifically for Firefox OS. But the good news is that the device can also run Android 4.4.

ZTE Open C review

Firefox OS touting bargain phone that falls short

Very cheap ; MicroSD slot ; Straightforward Firefox OS

Awful camera ; Sluggish performance ; Lack of apps

The ZTE Open C is very cheap and as a first smartphone it could certainly do a job. It represents a definite step up from the realm of feature phones.

ZTE Open C review

It's super-cheap, but the Open C's terrible battery life, poor screen and sluggish OS make it a highly compromised handset

ZTE Open C

Firefox OS vs Android: it's no fair fight

Cheap ; Respectable screen for price

Limited apps selection ; Quite buggy ; Poor camera ; Inconsistent performance

Firefox OS has been around for more than a year, but it still feels very wobbly in the ZTE Open C.
