Best value espresso machine

Reviewers say that the Gaggia Classic produces a nearly perfect espresso for a fraction of the cost of high-end machines. Several users who have owned their machines for years say the Gaggia is very durable and holds up well to consistent daily use....

Simple controls, compact, durable, uses ground coffee or ESE pods

Hard to judge water level, cheap plastic tamper, cheap frothing wand, aluminum boiler susceptible to corrosion

It's what a good espresso machine should be: simple to operate and capable of producing perfect espresso shots

Pouring a coffee is just a matter of flicking the hot water switch and the Classic kicks into action, pouring espresso into one or two cups, depending on the amount of coffee you put in.

Gaggia Classic

Very disappointed that this had so many moving parts. Found it difficult to set up and then performance was testy with espresso half way across the kitchen and then the frothed tip flew off as well!

CoffeeGeek - Gaggia Classic Machine - Alex DiCicco's Review

I've had the Classic for a year and it is a very solid machine that produces great espresso. A lot of commercial components and stainless steel body gives it that 'prosumer' feel. Heats up to temp rather quickly due to the small boiler. The fact...

Built like a tank ; Can produce great espresso ; Commercial components ; Quick heat up time

Small boiler ; Frothing attachment

CoffeeGeek - Gaggia Classic Machine - Bob Pasternak's Review

I'm new to making espresso.

Produces real espresso, with syrupy mouth feel and good crema ; Warm up is quick ; 3-Way solenoid valve is nice feature ; Doesn't take up a lot of room on kitchen counter ; Stainless Steel construction is nice

Every shot, without even one exception, is sour ; Small boiler is inadequate for steaming. I have to wait in the middle of steaming 6 ounces of milk

The Classic Gaggia Espresso machine functions very well.

The Gaggia espresso machine was easy to put together with the help of DVD instructions, especially video of correct pours vs. incorrectly tamped and ground coffee pours.  These visual instructions made start up foolproof.  Once set up it has performed...

Great home espresso machine, well built with good support/spares. A few shortcomings but overall a good compromise.

Like most people who make espresso at home, I did plenty of research on machines. I soon found out that for the budget I was on (GBP250-300) I would be better off getting a second hand machine and a decent grinder than a new machine and a cheap (or no)...

Solid build quality ; Quick heat-up ; 58 mm PF

Small boiler causes temperature drop ; Some temperature surfing required
