Panasonic Lumix DMC-GH3

The Panasonic Lumix DMC-GH3 is an excellent camera for video enthusiasts, but it's not the best all-around Micro Four Thirds camera that we've tested.

Excellent video quality and features. 6.2fps continuous shooting. Snappy autofocus. Sharp vari-angle touch-screen LCD. EVF. Built-in flash. Wi-Fi. Dustproof and splashproof design

Pricey. Lags behind competition at high ISOs. EVF is choppy in low light

The Panasonic Lumix DMC-GH3 ($1,299.99 direct, body only) is Panasonic's top-end Micro Four Thirds camera. It's a 16-megapixel design that is quite popular for videographers, but at its heart it's a very capable still camera. It focuses quickly, offers... - GOLD AWARD

Panasonic Lumix DMC-GH3

Since the introduction of the Lumix DMC-GH1 back in 2009, the GH-series' place in Panasonic's Lumix lineup has been clear; a flagship stills and video model designed for enthusiasts who demand a well-handling, responsive and customizable camera with...

Sensational video quality ; Good stills image quality ; Solid, sealed metal construction without the camera becoming too heavy ; Lots of external control points ; Plenty of customization ; Caters well to both videographers and stills shooters ; Good...

No focus aids available when shooting video ; Electronic viewfinder has distinct color cast and disappointing optics ; Noise reduction at high ISO rather clumsy ; JPEG color response a little underwhelming ; Wi-Fi can be awkward to set up

The GH3 offers the best video quality of any camera we've ever seen and does a pretty good job of making it available to a wide range of users. This footage is available without external recorders, making it ideal for in-the-field shooting as well as...

Camera Test: Panasonic Lumix DMC-GH3 Interchangeable-Lens Compact

Micro four Thirds cameras, along with other mirrorless bodies, have always been billed as smaller than DSLRs. While they definitely are, Panasonic's Lumix GH- and G-series bodies take their design cues from the reflex cameras that came before them. The...

Rugged body. Excellent image quality

Large body size rivals DSLRs

Panasonic Lumix GH3

The Lumix GH3 is Panasonic's flagship Micro Four Thirds compact system camera. Launched in September 2012 it replaces the Lumix GH2 and Panasonic hopes to build on the earlier model's reputation for combining DSLR-like handling with professional video...

Weatherproof construction and great controls ; Wide range of movie formats with high bit rate encoding up to 72Mbps ; Big, bright, stable 16:9 1,744k dot OLED EVF ; External mic and headphone sockets ; Interval shooting and HDR modes ; Excellent still...

Not weather proof when flash is in use ; Wi-Fi slow and unreliable for image transfer in my tests ; Average continuous shooting for a semi-pro body ; Rear control wheel difficult to operate

The Panasonic Lumix GH3 is a worthy succesor to the GH2. The redesigned sensor and updated processor provide a raft of enhancements to its video capabilies which will delight existing GH series owners, some of whom have been relying on firmware hacks...

Panasonic Lumix GH3 Review

A prosumer's dream camera.

Excellent video recording; Useful video features; Great JPEG putput; Solid build; WiFi expands remote usability; Great OLED touchscreen

EVF edges are blurred/ stretched

And that really is the beauty of the Panasonic Lumix GH3, as it has taken proper advantage of its Micro Four Thirds body, you get a brilliantly fast camera capable of recording great JPEG images with rich contrast, and more impressive yet are the...

Yes, for a number of reasons, not all directly to do with image making either.

Panasonic Lumix DMC-GH3 camera

Panasonic has improved the sensor and physical features of its flagship mirrorless camera, and also added battery-draining Wi-Fi

Excellent image quality ; Wide array of buttons and dials ; Built-in EVF and flash

Exposure changes can't be seen on the screen immediately ; Wi-Fi implementation is cumbersome

The Lumix DMC-GH3 has all sorts of buttons and dials that can help you set the scene for your photos. If you use them correctly, you'll end up with images that are clean, highly detailed, and a pleasure to look at. You could also just plonk it in...
