Panasonic DMC-G2

The Panasonic G2 combines slick hardware with impressive performance to give a good name to the Micro Four Thirds format.

Panasonic finally seems to be narrowing in on the optimal combination of performance, hardware, and price when it comes to their Micro Four Thirds lineup. The Panasonic G2 (MSRP $799.95) has an excellent articulated LCD panel, electronic viewfinder,...

Panasonic DMC-G2 Review

(lens section by Andy Westlake, additional content by Richard Butler and Barnaby Britton).

Reliably good image quality up to ISO 800, usable up to ISO 3200 ; Accurate metering and focus ; Good JPEG resolution (though stick to raw for best results) ; Fast and responsive in use ; Good ergonomics all around, excellent build quality, nice...

Out-of-camera JPEG color not as appealing as best competitors ; New kit lens not as good as predecessor ; ISO 6400 verging on the unusable ; High ISO default noise reduction a bit too high ; Dynamic range still not as good as best APS-C competitors ;...

The G2 is very much the camera the G1 should have been. The addition of a decent HD movie mode, some cool touch-screen features and minor enhancements throughout turn an already good camera into a great one. Image quality is excellent (especially at...

Panasonic Lumix DMC-G2 (Blue)

Panasonic may have been first company to market with its interchangeable-lens camera, but its early models made some missteps. Most notably, the relatively reasonably priced Lumix DMC-G1 lacked video capture capability; with this update, the Lumix...

Nice touch-screen implementation; articulated LCD; relatively fast; pretty good EVF

Images a little noisier at midrange ISO sensitivities than they should be; too easy to accidentally move focus points with touch screen

Although the photos look a hair noisier and overprocessed compared with many competitors, the Panasonic Lumix DMC-G2 has a lot to recommend about it--including a flip-and-twist touch-screen and speedy performance.

Panasonic G2 DSLR Camera Review

The Panasonic G2 is a video-capable camera that feature's a Micro Four Thirds lens mount system. Unfortunately, the camera doesn't bring any new features to the video-capable DSLR market, and its 720p HD video recording left a lot to be desired.

Panasonic's Lumix G2; Micro Four Thirds Compact System Camera

The promise of Micro Four Thirds system cameras is that you get the light weight and portability of a smallish point-and-shoot camera with the lens interchangeability and functions of an advanced D-SLR. Panasonic goes one step further with the new G2...

There are many "artsy" modes you can choose, including black and white (monochrome), and with its all-time Live View system the G2 lets you preview the results prior to making the shot. This shot was made at the 14mm focal length on the kit lens at ISO...

Panasonic G2

The Panasonic G2 is one of the many Micro Four Thirds system cameras available now. As you may know, Micro Four Thirds cameras don't have a mirror like traditional DSLRs. Instead, the G2 and other Micro Four Thirds cameras utilize a live view system...

The Panasonic G2 is an excellent camera. Form, function and performance are rock solid with this Micro Four Thirds shooter. The AF speed, image quality and feature set rivals what the best of the entry-level DSLR crowd is offering right now.

Panasonic Lumix DMC-G2 Review

We had high expectations of the Panasonic G2 and it didn't disappoint us.

Solid construction ; Many dedicated controls ; Articulated LCD

Occasional overexposure ; 200 more than similar G10 ; Trouble with indoor WB

My only real issue with the G2 is its price. With a list price of $200 more than the very similar G10, I wonder how many buyers will opt for the G2 based on its higher resolution viewfinder and articulated touch screen LCD monitor. However, I'm sure...

Product Specifications

The G2 is the world's first system camera with touch-control shooting. Just touch the LCD to indicate the subject, and the G2 focuses on it instantly. Choose from four AF modes to match the conditions. You can also operate the auto focus and shutter release at the same time with just a touch, for a completely new way to shoot. You can adjust the exposure compensation by sliding your finger on the aperture and shutter speed settings in the exposure meter shown on the LCD. The range in which appropriate exposure is not possible is shown in red, so you can intuitively grasp the corresponding aperture and shutter speed combinations. A touch is all it takes to make a variety of settings, including photo size, ISO sensitivity and white balance. You spend less time fiddling with the camera and more time getting great shots. A variety of touch-control operations make playback quick, easy and more fun. For example, with touch-scroll playback you simply slide your finger across the LCD to scroll through images. And with touch-zoom playback, you can simply touch a part of the image to enlarge it to as much as 16x. The hybrid G2 lets you take both high quality photos and HD movies. You can shoot breathtaking HD (1280 x 720) movies in AVCHD Lite (MPEG-4 AVC/H. 264). You can record for a longer time without running out of memory because AVCHD lite stores less data than motion JPEG while maintaining stunning image clarity and detail. A dedicated button on the top lets you instantly start recording movies while shooting photos, without having to make any extra settings. The large 3.0-inch LCD rotates 180
