Panasonic Lumix G Leica DG Nocticron 42.5mm F1.2

The Panasonic Lumix G Leica DG Nocticron 42.5mm F1.2 is the best Micro Four Thirds lens we've seen for portraiture thanks to impeccable sharpness and a wide aperture. It's an easy Editors' Choice.

Very wide aperture. Sharp from edge to edge at f/1.2. No distortion. Optical stabilization system. Physical aperture ring. Fantastic build quality

Big. Heavy. Expensive

Let's dispense with the downsides: The Panasonic Lumix G Leica DG Nocticron 42.5mm F1.2 ($1,599.99) is big, heavy, and expensive. But it delivers edge-to-edge sharpness even at its widest aperture, captures a heck of a lot of light, shows no...

Review: Panasonic Lumix GX1

No company is more responsible for establishing this category than Panasonic, which has been steadily dialing up the goodness in its Lumix compact system cameras...

Zoom and manual-focus levers ingeniously placed right on the lens barrel. Love the barely-there dimensions — and price

Zoom on the included 14-42-mm lens is twitchy and imprecise in video mode. Autofocus struggles in low light

Panasonic Lumix DMC-GX1

At 16 megapixels, the Panasonic Lumix DMC-GX1 features the highest resolution of any Micro Four Thirds camera, although it doesn't do well at higher ISO settings.

Compact size. Fast continuous shooting. Hot shoe and accessory port. Built-in flash.

Large, soft kit lens. Fixed rear LCD. Poor high ISO performance. Pricey.

Performance and Conclusions The GX1 performs quite well in terms of speed. It can start up and grab a shot in 1.1 second, records only a 0.1 second shutter lag, and can rattle off photos with just 0.25 second between shots. Perhaps most impressively,...

Panasonic Lumix DMC-GX1

Panasonic's Lumix DMC-GX1 is the company's latest addition to its G-series lineup. And although the camera bears the '1' appendage in its model name, it is clear from even a cursory glance that with the GX1, Panasonic has provided the long-awaited...

Highest resolution Micro Four Thirds sensor ; Very good quality JPEG high ISO images ; Improved white balance and skin tone rendering (compared to GF1) ; Fast AF acquisition (particularly impressive in low light) ; Shooting is possible while the...

Conservative metering tends towards underexposure ; Fastest continuous shooting modes come at the expense of live view ; 20fps SH mode yields poor image quality ; Limited manual exposure controls for video recording ; Continuous tracking performance...

The GX1 packages external camera control points and a class-leading touchscreen interface in a classically-styled small form factor that produces the best image quality we've yet seen from a Micro Four Thirds camera.

Panasoinc Lumix DMC-GX1 review: Panasoinc Lumix DMC-GX1

Panasoinc Lumix DMC-GX1

Fast performance and excellent raw photo quality, combined with Panasonic's veteran touch-screen/direct-control hybrid interface, make the ; a strong ILC choice.

The new X-series PZ kit lens could use some design tweaks, and Panasonic's JPEG processing, though much better than before, could still use a little work.

A well-designed camera with an interface that creative photographers can customize to their liking, the Panasonic Lumix DMC-GX1 deserves serious consideration if you're looking for a modestly compact interchangeable-lens model.

It may not offer too many genuine surprises, but the new Panasonic Lumix G6 is a compelling, very well-balanced compact system camera that offers a lot of features and performance at an attractive price. Falling into the mini-DSLR category of...
