Pentax QDigital Camera Review

The Pentax Q is one of several new mirrorless systems launching this year and it differentiates itself from the pack in a big way: by being as small as can be. While the Q is not as thin as your typical point-and-shoot camera, its height, width and...

To this point, the design philosophy of your typical compact system camera has been to utilize as large an image sensor as possible while shaving down other components to offer an interchangeable lens camera that is, at the very least, more portable...

Camera Test: Pentax Q ILC

When we saw the first mirror-less interchangeable-lens compact cameras just a few years ago, it was clear that the main reason the mirror went away was to allow for smaller cameras and lenses. And while the first models to hit the market were indeed...

Your eyes aren't playing tricks on you: the Pentax Q is actually smaller than this compact Canon ELPH! How did Pentax manage to make such a small interchangeable lens camera? The secret is in the sensor: the Q's sensor is exactly the same size as what...

Smallest interchangeable lens camera in the world; solid build quality ; Good photo quality at low ISOs ; Sensor-shift image stabilization ; Sharp 3-inch LCD display has 460k pixels, good low light visibility ; Full manual controls, with RAW support...

Expensive ; Body may be too compact; controls are small, cluttered, and often poorly placed; hard to hold camera without accidentally bumping something important ; Middle and high ISO image quality not as good as competition ; Tends to clip highlights...

Overall, the Pentax Q is a pricey interchangeable lens camera whose biggest feature is its diminutive size and wide selection of special effects. Its photo quality, performance, and feature set certainly don't justify the price premium, so you're...

Pentax Q

The Pentax Q is a tiny interchangeable lens camera that can record Full HD video. The camera's variety of controls in video mode aren't bad, but its lack of good handling features, as well as sub-par performance in our color and sharpness tests, made...

The Pentax Q performed admirably in our video tests, but its color accuracy and sharpness results were a notch lower than we normally see from a compact interchangeable lens camera. Like most cameras in this class, it’s able to record decent video, but...

Pentax Q

Pentax produces a small-sensor digital camera with interchangeable lenses, a first for the digital camera industry. If your interchangeable-lens camera sits at home on the shelf because it's too big, the Pentax Q could be the camera you're looking for,...

The first genuinely compact--almost pocket-friendly--compact system camera, paired with equally small, interchangeable lenses. Great ergonomics for the size, and it feels like a real camera, not a computer with a lens

Very restrictive lens selection at launch. All but two current lenses have severe limitations in functionality. Performance is sluggish, and image quality trails large-sensor cameras by some distance

When Pentax announced the tiny Pentax Q compact system camera in the middle of last year, it instantly polarized opinions. Some loved it for its truly compact proportions, fulfilling a promise that they felt other mirrorless cameras had failed to truly...

Pentax Q review

Saying you've made the world's smallest and lightest compact system camera only makes sense if the camera has the gumption to back up the PR-speak

Small but rugged ; Great feature set ; Superb pics

Battery life ; Sound is mono only ; No clip on viewfinder

If you were holding off buying a Compact System Camera until you could find one that could fit in a jacket (or at a squeeze trouser) pocket before taking the plunge, then that point has arrived with the Pentax Q.
