Sony Alpha NEX-6

When it entered the mirrorless market with the NEX-3 and NEX-5 back in 2010, Sony, along with Panasonic and Olympus, saw vast potential to attract the millions of compact camera users who wanted better image quality but without the bulk of a DSLR....

Very good image quality and high ISO performance ; High resolution OLED electronic viewfinder ; Articulating 920k dot LCD display ; Built-in Wi-Fi allows for photo sharing to smartphones, computers, Facebook, and more; camera can be remotely controlled...

Best image quality obtained from RAW images (due to fairly strong noise reduction) ; Many controls still accessed through clunky menu-driven interface ; Movie recording button has gone from too-accessible (NEX-7) to inaccessible ; Some apps (such as...

The NEX-6 offers a highly attractive combination of excellent image quality, courtesy of Sony's proven 16MP sensor, enthusiast-friendly ergonomics (including a mode dial - a first for the NEX-series), a 'real' hot shoe, an OLED electronic viewfinder,...

Sony NEX-6 Review

The Sony NEX-6 is a compact and powerful ILC, featuring an APS-C sized 16-Megapixel CMOS image sensor, BIONZ image processor and more features and performance than you will find on a consumer dSLR. Combine that with the excellent image quality, a great...

Superior Auto provides outstanding image quality ; Dedicated Video Capture Button is always ready to record ; Hybrid AF is lightning fast and accurate ; Excellent overall image quality ; BIONZ processor allows for great burst rates and special shooting...

Multi Interface shoe does not accept an external microphone ; Higher ISO settings are very noisy ; LCD screen tilts but does not rotate ; Cannot use the ONE lens ring to focus and zoom at the same time

The Sony NEX-6 is a compact and powerful ILC, featuring an APS-C sized 16-Megapixel CMOS image sensor, BIONZ image processor and more features and performance than you will find on a consumer dSLR. Combine that with the excellent image quality, a great...

Despite the camera industry lamenting that smartphones are killing them, there are pockets of prosperity, namely interchangeable lens systems like Compact System Cameras (mirrorless) and DSLRs. The 16.1-megapixel Sony Alpha NEX-6 CSC is one model that...

Exceptional stills and quality videos ; Excellent OLED EVF/tilting LCD ; Easy to carry ; Just plain fun to use

Occasional AF misfires ; Should have a touchscreen LCD ; Wi-Fi could definitely be improved

The Sony NEX-6 is a superior Compact System Camera we highly recommend.

Sony Alpha NEX-6 (with 16-50mm PZ lens)

Maybe I'm just getting easier to please as I get older, but Sony's been winning me over recently with its enthusiast-targeted models. The Sony Alpha NEX-6 delivers an arguably better design and speedier performance than its Editors' Choice...

A fine shooting design, great photo and good video quality, and excellent performance number among the Sony Alpha NEX-6 's strengths.

The camera lacks the option to save groups of custom settings, a real irritation, and we wish it had a neutral color preset. Plus Sony's wireless implementation is awkward, and the app system is annoying.

The Sony Alpha NEX-6 delivers an as-yet-unbeatable package of image quality, performance, and design, even for its rather high price.

Sony NEX-6 review: it's the whole package, for just shy of a grand

Sony had a lot to show off just before we hopped aboard a flight to Photokina. The A99 was a lightweight bargain of a full-frame DSLR, the Cyber-shot RX1

Built-in OLED EVF ; Dedicated mode dial ; Excellent battery life ; Articulating LCD ; Solid, comfortable build

Sluggish start-up with compact zoom lens

It may be priced a bit out of reach for some, but Sony's NEX-6 is the company's best mirrorless model yet.

Sony Alpha NEX-6

The Sony Alpha NEX-6 ($999.99 direct with 16-50mm lens) is more expensive than some of the other cameras in the NEX lineup, but for the price you get an excellent package—a compact body with a big 16-megapixel image sensor, built-in EVF, Wi-Fi, and a...

Compact kit lens. Built-in EVF and flash. Sharp, tilting LCD. Excellent high ISO performance. 9fps burst shooting. Standard hot shoe

Slow to start and shoot. Kit lens could be sharper. No dedicated battery charger. Some camera apps cost money

The pricey-but-well-rounded Sony Alpha NEX-6 is an excellent camera for mirrorless enthusiasts, but it doesn't quite edge out the entry-level NEX-F3 as our Editors' Choice.

Sony NEX-6 review: can a pocket-sized camera finally kill your DSLR?

I still use a DSLR. Unlike my colleague Dan Seifert (and a handful of other staffers at The Verge), I've never been willing to sacrifice the speed and control of my Nikon D7000 to get a smaller, lighter camera. It's really not an image quality issue —...

Excellent, powerful controls ; Great images and video ; Small body is still easy to use

Wi-Fi is effectively useless ; Lens ecosystem still lags competition

It nearly perfectly balances size, power, quality, and price

Sony NEX-6: Lab Test Results & Comments

The NEX-6 offers an APS-C-sized CMOS sensor with 16MP resolution, the Sony NEX E-mount system, a large swivel screen on the back, a high-resolution electronic viewfinder, and a Wi-Fi module for wireless data transfer or remote control. This very small...

Very compact system camera ; High-resolution viewfinder, swivel monitor ; Full HD video, including AVCHD 2.0 modes (high frame rate, high bit rate) ; Built-in flash system; standard hot shoe (instead of ADI shoe)

Missing microphone interface for better sound recording

Sony NEX-6 Review: Fan Favorite

It's been more than three years since Sony entered the mirrorless camera race with its NEX-3 and NEX-5. Since then, Sony has expanded its NEX-series with the NEX-7 occupying the top position, with the 16 megapixel NEX-6 next in line. With each...

new mode dial ; built-in viewfinder and flash ; WiFi ; full feature set, good performance ; above average image quality ; full manual exposure control in video

confusing menu system ; even with mode dial ; still too dependent on menus ; poorly positioned "red" movie button

The Sony NEX-6 is a great little camera and, one of my personal favorites. Other than its sometimes confusing menu system, the NEX-6 is well designed for comfortable and efficient shooting for enthusiasts and those just stepping up from compact...

Sony Alpha NEX-6

Sony's NEX-6 provides the image quality and performance of the NEX-7, all at a very attractive price.

Sony’s NEX system has seen considerable growth since its inception just three short years ago. What started as two barely discernible options—the NEX-5 and NEX-3—has grown into a fine system with options for just about everyone. The NEX-7 also became...
