Sony Alpha NEX-7Digital Camera Review

The Sony Alpha NEX-7 is the flagship of the company's NEX line of mirrorless interchangeable cameras. It features a 24.3-megapixel image sensor, rapid 10fps continuous shooting, built-in XGA OLED viewfinder, tilting 3-inch rear LCD, as well as dual...

When Sony debuted their mirrorless system, the promise of a full APS-C image sensor in a relatively compact body was enticing, if not entirely realized. The Sony NEX-7 scratches closer at the potential of that combination by bringing together an...

Sony Alpha NEX-7

Without doubt, the 24.3-megapixel NEX-7 is one of the most lusted after cameras in years. It sold for $1,000 over list on eBay when it initially came out, but now has settled down to more realistic levels. That said, forget any thought of a discount....

Outstanding stills ; Excellent noise-handling characteristics ; Attractive, compact design ; Sharp, bright 3-inch LCD display ; Ample lens options

Expensive ; GUI has a definite learning curve ; No built-in IS; requires lens with OIS

If you’re looking for a camera that’ll last for years and has tons of options to help you grow as a photographer, buy the Sony alpha NEX-7.

Sony Alpha NEX-7 (with 18-55mm lens)

It may not be the ne plus ultra of interchangeable-lens cameras, but Sony's Alpha NEX-7 comes closer than almost any I've seen thus far. For this class of camera, the NEX-7 has almost everything: built-in flash, an OLED EVF, a large sensor, a tilting...

The Sony Alpha NEX-7 delivers excellent raw photo and solid video quality in a package that's beautifully and functionally designed, yet relatively compact. Though expensive for an essentially nonprofessional camera, it doesn't seem overpriced.

As with many competing products, the camera's JPEG algorithms need some optimization, some aspects of operation feel a little laggy, and it's missing some useful features.

With a lot to like and just a little to dislike, the Sony Alpha NEX-7 comes up a winner, albeit an expensive one.

Sony NEX-7 review

In the middle ground between DSLRs and point-and-shoot lies a vast plain filled with all manner of tweener cameras, in all variants of shape, size, price, and quality. Until now, no one has nailed the whole package, but so far the smartest middle...

Excellent pictures and video ; Fast performance ; Very easy to use

Still doesn't have DSLR-level manual control ; OLED viewfinder is mediocre ; Lens ecosystem isn't as good as Nikon or Canon

If you're buying a camera soon, look long and hard at the NEX-7

Sony Alpha NEX-7

Remember the NEX-7? Ever since a days-long shooting session back in September, Sony's prized mirrorless cam has eluded us -- and the rest of the world. As you may recall, the flagship Alpha ILC was hit by the Thailand floods, resulting in delay after...

Built-in EVF ; Tri-navi interface ; Superb battery life ; Excellent image quality ; 1080/60p video with mic input

Expensive for a mirrorless camera

Sony's NEX-7 is the company's best mirrorless camera yet, offering true DSLR image quality in a compact body.

Sony Alpha NEX-7

When Sony first introduced its range of mirrorless interchangeable lens cameras in May 2010, the company was very clear about who it thought would buy the NEX-5 and its near-identical-twin NEX-3. Small cameras with APS-C sensors, we were told, would...

Three dial interface offers extensive fingertip control ; Superb build quality ; Excellent 2.4 million-dot OLED EVF in compact, slimline body ; 920K dot tilting rear screen ; Very high-resolution 24MP CMOS sensor with impressive high-ISO performance ;...

Out-of-camera JPEGs don't show off the 24MP sensor to its best extent ; Auto ISO limited to maximum of 1600 ; Top-plate dials indistinguishable by touch (most problematic when using EVF) ; Mystifying default control setup (e.g. easier to change JPEG...

The NEX-7 packs an awful lot of features into its small body, including an excellent 24MP APS-C sensor and large high resolution electronic viewfinder. Its three dial interface and extensive customizability makes for excellent handling, although its...

Sony Alpha NEX-7First Impressions Review

The Sony Alpha NEX-7 debuts as the newest flagship mirrorless system camera for Sony, offering an OLED viewfinder, the same image sensor as the high-end Sony Alpha A77, and three control dials. The NEX-7 is designed for those looking for the most...

The Sony Alpha NEX-7 is one of the most exciting mirrorless cameras to be announced this year, with its dual context sensitive control wheels, 24.3-megapixel CMOS sensor, large grip, 10fps continuous shooting, 1080/60p video capability, built-in flash...

Camera Review: Sony Alpha NEX-7

Find out if Sony's high-end compact system camera was worth the wait.

While the small electronic viewfinder is better than most we’ve tried, it will still make you miss an optical viewfinder; inferior kit lens; you still need to go into menus to change modes

While I really enjoyed my time shooting with the Sony NEX-7—it was definitely worth the wait—it’s not the camera that would replace my favorite DSLR for most assignments. It does, however, present one of the best arguments—along with the 16.3-megapixel...

Sony NEX-7: Lab Test Results & Comments

The Sony NEX-7 is a compact camera with an E-mount system and an extremely high resolution (24MP). The metal body is very robust and sports a stylish retro design, which offers new features like two additional setup dials to change image parameters....

Elegant and stylish camera in robust body ; Sensor resolution is very high ; Full HD video with 50p (progressive mode with high bit rate) ; High-resolution EVF and LCD screen ; Nice handling due to two additional setup dials

Resolution results a little disappointing ; Swivel monitor could allow for more articulation

Sony NEX-7

The new Alpha NEX-7 is one of the best interchangeable lens cameras we've ever tested. It captured sharp video in all of our tests, handled motion extremely well, and, to top it all off, Sony fits this impressive video performance into a compact...

In terms of video, Sony is quickly positioning itself as a leader in the interchangeable lens camera market. The NEX-7, like the NEX-5N before it, handled our performance tests with ease, offering some of the sharpest video we’ve seen from an...
