This isn't to say, though, that it's impossible for the two genres to share balanced roles. However, any developer who would undertake such a project would find it a difficult negotiation that takes careful consideration and equal devotion to both...

Alan Wake

Remedy's high-concept horror drama, Alan Wake, spooked its way onto the Xbox 360 back in 2010, after a protracted 5-year development cycle that included false starts, scrapped ideas and even a shift from sandbox gameplay to linear exploration. It turns...

Alan Wake comes to the PC and brings his paranormal curse with him, completely intact. The same defining horror experience is here, occasionally marred by outdated graphics and quirky character animation, but everything else works like a charm. The...

Killer storytelling and creative demon slaying make the haunting Alan Wake one for the books.

Strong writing and creative storytelling ; Creepy without being campy ; Dynamic combat is tight ; Improved graphics

Encounters grow repetitive by the end ; Some character animations look dated

Let's play a game. It's a game where you have to forget you ever heard of Alan Wake and, for a bonus point, erase any memory of playing the Xbox 360 version. Done? Then we can begin in earnest.

Alan Wake feels right at home on the PC. While it retains some of the repetitive elements of the original console version, it does look prettier, and the extra content free of charge is a welcome addition to the package. Even the minor flaws are...
