Asus U46E-BAL5

The 14-inch widescreen and its 1,366-by-768 resolution can be found in most mainstream configurations, but it's bright, with very good viewing angles. The Samsung QX411-W01 uses a glass-covered screen, which liven up photos and movies with...

Stand-out metallic design. Sweet deal of a price. 750GB hard drive. Core i5 processor and 8GB of RAM are a powerful combination. WiDi 2.0 and WiMAX. USB 3.0 port. Very good battery life

Lacks a discrete graphics chip

While other mainstream laptops are putting in boilerplate parts, the Asus U46E-BAL5 raises the bar with excellent processing power and a glut of cutting-edge features.

Best for the Price!

I did a lot of research to find the best laptop under 600 dollars, and this one won by far. It arrived in perfect condition (even though it is a refurb). It looks great (comparable to a MAC), it is very portable, and the quality overall is amazing.

Fast Processor ; 8 GB RAM ; Large Hard Drive ; Crisp Screen ; USB 3.0 ; HDMI Port ; Light Weight

Not many, but ; As stated before, the speakers are both on one side and can be somewhat quite. This is not a problem for me because I usually am using headphones or other speakers. However, you can increase the volume level by opening "Change sound...

Good specs, but poor construction, ASUS service terrible

I accidentally flung this laptop about 4-6 inches into a cabinet, which left a massive dent on the side of the screen (weak construction) and clean snapped off one of the hinges. ASUS support is renowned to be terrible, so I really don't think I'll try...

Super cheap ; Awesome specs in the laptop ; Battery life is great, 5-8+ hours depending on usage ; It's super portable and light ; Very sleek and attractive design ; I love the ASUS keyboard layout. (keys sparkle, btw) ; USB3.0 port ; Quick-charge USB...

The entire laptop is pretty flimsy aluminum/plastic construction; simply squeezing it between your fingers shows a yielding frame, especially on the side with the CD drive ; The button for the CD drive is placed annoyingly, so that it's super easy to...

one speaker

Newegg should just send all these back to Asus and not waste money sending them out defected. I purchase alot from them and always happy, this time not so much.

Great fast laptop

Too bad all the refurb they have in stock all have the same problem (at least the 3in a row I received in 5 days) they only have the right speaker working as previous review stated for some reason they wired both channels to the right side. So if you...

Cheap design

I am EXTREMELY disappointed with NewEgg for not honoring our RMA agreement. We are a small business, but for years have ordered all of our hardware and most of our software from NewEgg, which totals well into the tens of thousands of dollars. I can't...

Good processor and RAM specs

The plastic is very flimsy on the DVD drive. When we received our laptop, the DVD drive did not work. In order to advance the RMA process along, I attempted to swap the DVD drive with one we had in the office to verify if there was a problem with the...

Great until it stopped working

Based on the failure I would not recommend buying an ASUS refurb.

Good value if it still worked

Screen failed in 1.5 months - outside Newegg's warranty period. Luckily it was just still inside ASUS's warranty period so it's in for service
