Chessmaster 9000

It becomes clear that a system, a habit or a routine is in place whencritiques of the perennial Chessmaster always begin with a fewdiatribes. How do we justify the purchase of a fully priced Chessmasterthis year compared to the previous edition? Then...

I played Chessmaster when it was at 2000 on the Commodore 64. Back then, companies and products were named 2000 to give a near futuristic feel. Nowadays, 2000 sounds a little corny and out of date. Chessmaster pegs itself at 9000 but it's not so far...

I preferred earlier versions for my purposes

The Chessmaster series has been, and probably still is, the most user-friendly,and intuitive of Chess Programs that play acceptable chess. I got several copies of this for a junior chess club (ages 7-10), having used earlier versions very succesfully,...

Like all the Chessmaster products, this is an excellent piece of introductory software. It plays at a wide variety of strengths (the strongest is very strong) and some of the tutorial modules are useful. That said, its not a path on Chessbase's Fritz ...

Product Specifications

Selling over four million copies and winning numerous awards would be enough for most software programs. But since its launch over a decade ago, the Chessmaster series has remained the most dominant franchise in the history of chess software. The new Chessmaster 8000 follows in the footsteps of its highly successful predecessors, with a whole bundle of new advanced features. Its revamped chess engine is the most powerful engine available on a personal computer, playing at grandmaster level at its top strength, while stunning new chess sets in new 16-bit graphics please the eye. The game includes an entire endgame course by International Master Josh Waitzkin. Using examples drawn from Josh's own tournament games, it's the equivalent of several books on the subject - and a lot more fun besides! The exclusive "Match the Masters" feature by noted chess author and teacher, Bruce Pandolfini, adds excitement and a new level of gameplay, and with an improved interface, new animated cursors and the new Natural Language Advice specially aimed at kids, the game has a new appeal for the younger audience.
