Colin McRae: DiRT 2

Codemasters kicked off their racing revolution two years ago with the well received and foundation setting Dirt. A lot has changed since then and the critically acclaimed EGO Engine has gone through many iterations and improvements – some that we saw...

A definite step up from the original in more ways than one. Immersive racing, jaw-dropping visuals, an extensive career and a vastly improved online mode make up for the game's few minor annoyances... like riding in vehicles that just aren’t that fun....

DIRT: Colin McRae Off-Road Review for the XBOX360

Bringing rallying to the masses.

Beautiful environments; Unrivaled rally gameplay; Wide array of vehicles and rally courses; Easy, responsive controls

Too few non-rally courses; Limited online features

Colin McRae: DiRT 2 Review (Xbox 360)

Codemasters is a company that has been experiencing a methodical transformation over the past few years. In a time long past (all of three years ago), the company was releasing some of the most realistic and hardcore simulations on consoles

Graphics are ridiculously good. Wide variety of events. Flat-out fun

No true endurance rallies. Earn XP online and offline separately. Forced online grids in ranked matches

Colin McRae: DiRT 2

If you have any interest whatsoever in off-road racing you'd do well to take this beautiful and thrilling game for a spin.

Variable difficulty caters to players of all skill levels ; Lengthy career mode is tough to put down ; Multiplayer is lag-free and loads of fun ; Audio and visual presentation is superb

No split-screen multiplayer

It's not details like these that make Dirt 2 such a superb racing game though. What makes Dirt 2 so special is the fact that its multiple difficulty levels and forgiving gameplay mechanics make it accessible to newcomers while offering a significant...

Colin McRae: DIRT 2 Xbox 360 Review

You wouldn't know that Colin McRae: DiRT 2 was developed by a British developer: it's headlined by a group of American drivers (Ken Block, Travis Pastrana, Dave Mirra and Tanner Faust) and the presentation is way overdone, so much so that it's over the...

Colin McRae: DiRT 2 is a brilliant off-road racer, it’s flaws are few and it’s plus points are vast. The Americanisation, the lack of weather conditions and the overdone presentation don't weigh too heavily on what is a fast, fun, dirty racer, and one...

Wrap up an enjoyable rally experience with the best racing game visuals we've ever seen and DIRT 2 becomes a must-buy game.

Tonnes of variety ; Great driving model ; Absolutely stunning presentation

Perhaps too flashy for some

Minor problems aside, DIRT 2 is everything racing fans will want from an off-road racer. The driving is fast, fun and be tailored to your skill level. Hardcore fans will work hard shaving split seconds off their best times, while novices can still work...

Colin McRae: DIRT

Dirt is a great rally title for a first outing on next-gen consoles. It is gorgeous and groundbreaking but has taken a decidedly arcade approach. It lacks in some areas but makes up for it in others. Definitely good groundwork established for even...

Fantastic graphics and physics modeling, beautiful car models and incredibly detailed environments, good for all skill levels, realistic damage

Lack of decent multiplayer, boring replays, no weather effects, and only a limited number of tracks and cars

If I was to start a review by congratulating the developers on their menu design you'd think I'd either gone a little mad or there wasn't much else of note to be found within the game. I mean all games have menus, they're not new, they're not exciting...

Rallying has always been about the battle between the driver, the car and the course. You need to learn how to push each car to its limits all the while knowing the course like the back of your hand so you're prepared for whatever's round each corner...

Colin McRae: DIRT

It's been a while since we last saw you, Colin. It's been over two and a half years since the previous installment in the popular rallying franchise, and since then Codemasters have taken the time to get ready for another generation of consoles. It...

Colin McRae has made a rather successful jump to this generation, and in the process has expanded its audience, without taking away too much from the hardcore. There are areas to improve, but for now we have one of the best rally games ever made to enjoy.
