Command & Conquer 4: Tiberian Twilight review

EA rebooted the Command & Conquer franchise with Command & Conquer 4: Tiberian Twilight, where they tried something new, a new way of playing the RTS game. However, by doing so, they fundamentally changed what made C & C great in the first place.

Fast gameplay — if you're into that ; Decent multiplayer

Destroys the good old C & C formula ; Lacks polish ; Frustrating gameplay

Tiberium has infested the planet, and warring factions lay down their arms for the greater good. Major gameplay changes and a darker story come together and marks Kane's departure from the series.

With the emphasis on Crawlers for greater mobility, focus is taken off traditional base building. At most, you'll be fortifying defenses, but most tasks have been allocated to the Crawlers. You could even say the Crawlers are your new base. For many...

Little to command, less to conquer

Fast paced multiplayer battles with up to 10 players on a single map

Did they really slap the name Command & Conquer onto this game

When a game developer takes a proven formula and then makes wholesale changes, one of two things is likely to happen: They're hailed as geniuses for their innovation, or they're condemned for selling out the franchise. Command & Conquer 4: Tiberian...

I didn’t mean to pan the game this hard, but it really is quite bad in all the most important areas. Supreme Commander 2 is a much better game, and with its simplified mainstream mechanics, it comes quite close to filling the niche intended for C&C4. ...

I have always played RTS games and while growing up I had a choice of quite a few to play, whether it was the great Age of Empires series or the Settlers series and of course how could I forget the Command and Conquer series. I don't know why but I've...

Great Storyline ; Acting is Spot on ; Everything looks nice

New RTS system doesn't feel right ; Having to be online all the time is a pain ; No LAN option for games

It's Command & Conquer, but not as we know it. Fans expecting a tweaked game to round out the franchise may be sorely disappointed.

A blend of other game styles makes for a new multiplayer experience

Too much has changed for the hardcore fans to feel like this is still a C&C game

Defeat from the jaws of victory.
