FlatOut 3: Chaos & Destruction

I have always had a couple of pet peeves when it comes to console-based racing games, the first of which is the ubiquitous requirement that I “unlock” content that I have already bought and paid for. Running a close second is the cardinal rule that...

It's not the premise that works against Flatout 3 being a good game, it's the implementation. Terribly weak AI and amorphous car control distract from what could have been an enjoyable vehicular riot.

Flatout 3: Chaos & Destruction Review

In which the racing series jumps the shark and plows headfirst into a wall

Discount priced; Varied gameplay modes; Easy to uninstall

Nonexistent driving physics; Horrific AI; Graphically grotesque

What a wreck. I hear this Flatout was ported over from the Wii version, which is also terrible.

FlatOut 3: Chaos & Destruction Review

Oddly enough, it's the chaos and destruction that derail FlatOut 3.

Intense, high-speed demolition racing ; Numerous play modes ; Large selection of crazy vehicles to unlock

Steep difficulty and aggressive AI hampers early races ; Main racing mode gets off to a rough start ; Cars are too easily sent out of control during collision

Flatout 3: Chaos & Destruction review

What's been done to the formerly great racing series almost defies description - but we'll try...

The subtitle of Flatout 3 is "Chaos & Destruction". Quite appropriate: after I’d flung my gamepad across the study some 27 times, things certainly seemed pretty chaotic and destructive. That subtitle, however, is all there is there that's apt about...

Intense, high-speed demolition racing ; Numerous play modes ; Large selection of crazy vehicles to unlock

Steep difficulty and aggressive AI hampers early races ; Main racing mode gets off to a rough start ; Cars are too easily sent out of control during collision

FlatOut 3's attention to destructive detail is commendable, but it overshadows the racing aspect to the point that it threatens to derail the gameplay altogether. Loose and explosive wins out over tight and controlled throughout many facets of the game...

FlatOut 3: Chaos & Destruction- PC

It's] a bloated and broken racing game, plagued by hideous controls, dismal physics and a graphics engine that makes everything look like Lego. A recent patch doesn't seem to have made FlatOut 3 any more bearable, either.

FlatOut 3: Chaos & Destruction- PC

Bugbear built the FlatOut brand, and bred a following on a balance of silly stunts, destructible environments and rewards. It crafted the game's zanier side with care, with the aim of keeping players invested in its often cheap kicks. Team6 has...

FlatOut 3: Chaos & Destruction- PC

You could go mad trying to rationalise Flatout 3. It is not bad in the way that a game like Boiling Point is bad, where things coalesce into a kind of awful greatness. This is a tacky and technically incompetent production with no redeeming features...

FlatOut 3: Chaos & Destruction- PC

I'd love for Flatout 3 to be this crappy but still mildly amusing experience that gets more charming with each senseless crash or failed attempt to complete a multiplayer match, but for me, this did not happen at all. [...] [It] does wind up having one...

FlatOut 3: Chaos & Destruction- PC

There isn't much to play or buy here. Between its obsolete visuals, dead vehicle dynamics, atrocious AI, and deserted multiplayer lobbies, Flatout 3 is a decided waste of time and space.
