Nuclear Dawn- PC

My PC brethren, turn in your hymnals to #1337, and sing along with me: “Mods are good, mods are great, mods are things we appreciate.” Some of your favorite games started out as mods, and the others were undoubtedly influenced by them. Indie developer...

There are many multiplayer shooters that compete for your time and your wallet, and InterWave has made sure to make more than just another copycat. While many of Nuclear Dawn‘s features, such as squads and unlocks, are borrowed from larger games, its...

Nuclear Dawn Review

The weakest link is between the keyboard and the chair.

Variety of classes/equipment load-outs; Fun rock-paper-scissor class mechanics; Interesting implementation of FPS/RTS mechanics; Every round plays out differently; Working with a good team is an absolute joy

Still feels unpolished; many annoying (minor) bugs; Poor hit-boxes on map objects and horrible ladders can make navigating levels a chore; Cumbersome in-game menu system; RTS implementation is a little clunky

The Source engine has been merrily serving game developers for roughly seven years now. It's quite impressive, and its powered plenty of hits - granted, most of them have been in-house Valve productions, but a few cult classics have been built on the...

Which originally began as a post-apocalyptic mod for the Source engine in 2006, Nuclear Dawn switched to a commercial project in 2009 aiming to provide players with an unique gameplay hybrid of FPS and RTS elements. The extended development time and...

Nuclear Dawn is a compelling combination of FPS and RTS elements that provide an unique experience among other online shooters. With an array of class customization and ability to control the battlefield as a commander, a trip to the war torn world of...

Nuclear Dawn Review

Nuclear Dawn is an intense first-person shooter/real-time strategy hybrid that has a lot to offer when it comes to teamwork.

Innovative design blending FPS action with hands-on RTS mechanics ; Solid balance with classes and weaponry ; Good variety of maps with interesting, intricate cityscape designs ; Smart map design leads to intense battles for key resources

No solo play, bot support, or even playable tutorials ; Can be quite chaotic unless you're in a match with experienced players ; EMP grenades can be exploited

Map terrain is an atmospheric mash-up of six postapocalyptic locales, such as blasted London and New York cityscapes, an Asian subway system, a snowy military base, and an anonymous Arab city now ruined and left to the sands. All the maps are designed...

Fantastic concept blending FPS & RTS ; Asymmetrical build paradigms lead to different strategies

Only 1 mode and 6 maps ; Audio and visual quirks ; Absurd load times ; No offline bot training or interactive tutorials

When I first learned about Nuclear Dawn, the concept struck as both ambitious and exciting. Interwave was putting together a game that aligned FPS and RTS elements for parallel play experiences that would ultimately yield a revolutionary approach to...

Blending real time strategy with first or third person action is a concept that's been floating around for many years. While admittedly not commonplace, the likes of Toy Soldiers and the 1998 remake of Battlezone have proven that RTS and action hybrids...

Finally getting the call to be your team’s Commander. Even if it isn’t the most fun thing in the world power hungry gamers will get a kick out of ordering their team mates about.

An FPS / RTS Hybrid

Genre hybrids are becoming more and more popular these days, which I think is great. However, they still needs to be executed correctly to be something special. In Nuclear Dawn’s case some way of teaching the players it’s mechanics were really required...

Had a few great looking indie Sci-fi shooters come in recently, and there is no exception with Nuclear Dawn from Interweave Studios, but under the hood there is a nice little twist, in the form of an RTS/FPS Hybrid, which certainly got me interested...

A nice spin on traditional FPS and RTS, bridging player market ; Rich textures and atmosphere engross you in the action ; Intense map designs lead to constant action

Will be very overwhelming to some ; No playable tutorials or singpleplayer options

A perfect blend of RTS and FPS

It's been tried many times before, but Nuclear Dawn goes a long way to successfully blend FPS with RTS in a compelling format. If you're happy to deal with a steep learning curve, and you enjoy gameplay that is reliant on team-based play, then Nucelar...
