Ridge Racer Unbounded Review

Mind the gap.

Lots of great new ideas for Ridge Racer; Pretty, grimy, nice road effects and explosions

Everything is stolen; Buggy, poor handling; You won't after you try it in Unbounded

Unfortunately, none of these ideas are original and they were all better accomplished in the titles that originated them. Take one of the older models for a spin around the block and see for yourself.

Ridge Racer Unbounded Review

Ridge Racer Unbounded is a dramatic departure for the series, but one that's filled with some gloriously destructive, fast-paced racing.

Well designed tracks that reward destruction ; Satisfying takedown system ; Jumping your car out of exploding buildings ; Community-led online modes that reward creativity

Unintuitive track creator ; Cinematic replays come at expense of gameplay

And really, that's what Unbounded excels at: balls-to-the wall, explosive action. Truth be told, it's Ridge Racer by name only and a massive departure from previous games in the series. But there's so much to like here, so much joy to be had fragging...

If ever there was an an advocate for the inclusion of thorough tutorials in videogames, they'll likely illustrate their point with Ridge Racer Unbounded for years to come. As much as we bemoan too much hand-holding in modern gaming, Unbounded takes the...

Ridge Racer Unbounded

Bugbear Entertainment knows a thing or two about cars crashing into one another. As the studio behind the FlatOut franchise, they've shown they can create a driving game that melds crazy excitement with solid handling.

What Ridge Racer Unbounded does right is high-thrills racing and crazy action -- like smashing through a municipal building only to boost off an elevated train track that then leads you into a truck filled with explosives. It is unfortunate that the...

Ridge Racer Unbounded PC Review

After many entries in the drift-happy Ridge Racer series, publisher Namco started looking to other games for inspiration. To go beyond even that, they started looking at entirely different developers, too, and chose Bugbear Interactive - creators of...

For that matter, I'm not sure that Bugbear and Namco really got off the execution they wanted with this game. I can see how the concept looked great on paper, where the best elements of the last few years of arcade racing all come together under one...

Ridge Racer: Unbounded

Despite the demise of Blackrock Studios and Bizarre Creations hanging over it like a black cloud, the arcade racing genre has been incredibly well served by this generation of consoles. The likes of Burnout Paradise, Split/Second, Blur, Driver: San...

Ridge Racer Unbounded

Ridge Racer Unbounded

There's an absolutely excellent Ridge Racer game to be had with Bugbear's occasionally thrilling mix of speed and action, but unfortunately Unbounded is far too muddled and confused to be it.

A good concept ; Track editor is good

Handling model will ruffle feathers ; A poor execution

What's most frustrating, perhaps, is the occasional glimpses you get of what could have been - rare moments when Unbounded manages to rise above its miserable me-too parts, such as when you glide around a corner before smashing into the back of a rival...
