SpellForce 2: Shadow Wars

The first SpellForce title was quickly ignored by the American audience, while it sold fairly well in its native Europe. We at RPGFan dismissed the game as a failure to combine two genres: RPG and RTS. That, and the game was ridden with glitches.

However, just because it's a major improvement doesn't mean it's the world's greatest game. It's a unique attempt at merging videogame genres, and it held my attention fairly well. Considering I'm a somewhat jaded gamer, that's quite an accomplishment....

RTS+RPG=F-U-N, a Review of SpellForce 2: Shadow Wars

Blending RPG and RTS elements, SpellForce 2: Shadow Wars puts you in command of an army tasked with defending the known world from utter evil. OK, so the innovation doesn't exactly carry through to the narrative plot. Regardless, if you love RPGs and...

Large world and imersive story, control of Hero units

Not much variety in weaponry, system hog

I would readily recommend Shadow Wars to anyone out there. This hybrid of two different genres was engaging and a twist that sets SpellForce 2: Shadow Wars apart from the majority of RTS or role-playing games out there. The vastness of the world is...

SpellForce 2: Shadow Wars PC Review

In the past, there have been a fair amount of games that combined the RPG and RTS genres. Many of these involve just adding RPG elements to a fully-developed RTS engine, but developer Phenomic went a different path with SpellForce, instead opting to...

Graphics good for RTS; good RPG system; lots of gameplay; solid presentation

Thin RTS system; awkward script; somewhat unoptimized graphics

Apparently, the game has sold well enough in the past to warrant development of a sequel. SpellForce 2: Shadow Wars takes the existing form of gameplay established by the first game and seeks to add more to the story and gameplay. Like peanut butter...

SpellForce 2: Shadow Wars

SpellForce 2: Shadow Wars is a welcome diversion from the typical fantasy RTS. In the game's immersive (if cliché) storyline, you take the role of a fantastic hero on a quest to unite surrounding kingdoms against a growing threat from Dark Elves. To do...

A breath of fresh air for the RTS genre.

Spellforce 2: Shadow Wars

SpellForce 2: Shadow Wars is the sequel to the generally well-received SpellForce. While taking from the general successes of the first outings mix of RTS and RPG elements, SpellForce 2 streamlines the system, making it much more accessible, and brings...

Spellforce 2: after playing for 20+ hours, you realise how much you like it!

Spellforce 2 is, like its predecessor Spellforce: The Order of the Dawn, a mixture of RPG and RTS. You don't need to have played the first game to enjoy this one, but you will understand one or two references to events in the game ...

Many hours of gameplay, excellent interface, good aesthetics and storyline

the odd glitch and occasionally awful voice acting (!)
