Star Wars: The Old Republic

Modern online role-playing games have a tremendous obstacle that they must face, one that has been shared by girlfriends and psychiatrists the world over since 2004: How to beat World of Warcraft. Within a genre, there are only so many tinkers a...

If you can see past these relatively basic setbacks, The Old Republic will reward you with an online role-playing game that is unlike anything else you’ve played in the genre so far. That alone makes it worth checking out, but with some surprisingly...

Star Wars: The Old Republic Review

At least five major-budget MMORPGs have come and "gone" - that is to say, their subscriber base swelled initially then shrunk dramatically - since Blizzard's hugely successful World of Warcraft was released at the end of 2004. Most of these games are...

Despite my having written a chunk of negativity that's longer than some whole articles I've written, it's important to point out that The Old Republic is still a fantastic game with many great ideas for implementing a solo-style RPG experience into a...

The Force is strong in this one.

The Force is strong in Star Wars: The Old Republic. By providing a deep and engaging set of stories, fully voice acted and with segments where the player decisions can cause considerable impact, BioWare have crafted a near perfect Star Wars MMO...

Star Wars: The Old Republic Review

Star Wars: The Old Republic isn't the next step in online role-playing games. Instead, it's a highly entertaining refinement of what has come before it.

Outstanding production values capture the vibe of the Star Wars universe ; Companions add depth both to the story and to the gameplay ; Combat is exciting to watch and hear ; Eight fully voiced, branching stories give you a good reason to reach level...

Instancing can make open areas feel empty ; Frequent, uninspired corridor levels ; Shallow space combat is a missed opportunity

Of course, this is an online game, so AI companions aren't the only individuals you have at your side. When playing with others, you participate in conversations as a group, earning a currency called social points as a reward for consistent responses....

Star Wars: The Old Republic

Prettiest platformer of the year?

Engaging class missions with a distinctly BioWare feel. Well-designed skills. A good sense of being in the Star Wars Universe. An epic orchestral score and solid voice acting. Lightsabers

Occasionally buggy. Currently limited end-game. Force alignment and Social points system are prescribed. Some poor design decisions that will be ironed out in later patches (auction House GUI, no PvP level brackets, and so on.)

So much potential.
