Tomb Raider Playtest: Bookworm Archaeologist To Femme Fatale

Tomb Raider starts out with trouble right off the bat with an intense shipwreck scene. The next thing you know, Lara is hanging upside down in a cave full of skulls and eerily lit candles.

Reboots are a risky old business. Any media franchise can begin to grow old and tired, gimmicks and ideas that previously enthralled audiences leaving people cold - and videogames are no exception. There's something else present in gaming, though -...

Tomb Raider- PC

Tomb Raider is an exhilarating action adventure that serves as a terrific origin story for the iconic Lara Croft.

Story believably builds Lara up from unsure academic to confident adventurer ; Fascinating setting with a rich sense of history ; Intense combat that offers a good deal of flexibility ; Controls make physically overcoming the island's terrain a...

Forgettable multiplayer component ; Outside of Lara's character arc, story is predictable

Then, there are the all-out firefights. When your presence is known, enemies are smart and aggressive about flushing you out from cover with grenades and Molotovs, which forces you to keep moving and act boldly. Many enemies attack from a distance...

As you might remember from my review of The Last Revelation, I had never played a Tomb Raider game until a few months ago. After thoroughly enjoying the most recent game in the series, I decided that the rest of the games deserved a look as well, and...

Lara Croft gets an origin story and a new beginning in this adept game that revitalises the aging franchise.

Solid gameplay ; Great story ; Fun to play

Some frustrating areas

It's hard to imagine a game that could do a better job with such an iconic figure and such an extensive franchise.

Lara Croft is back and this time she's been rebooted. The game proves that there's life in a previous concept if the execution is near-flawless.

Tomb Raider is a superb game that deserves your hard-earned cash right away. It takes a mature approach to storytelling and reboots a beloved franchise in a good way.

A survivor is born... again. Reboots are en vogue, and if you wade in to take a look, you will see the internet floating on the horizon, drifting off in a sea of contempt. Remember when Fallout 3 was announced and it wasn't a carbon copy of the...

Amazing, fluid gameplay ; Intriguing and mysterious narrative ; Incredible art direction ; Fantastic animation ; Killer bushes

Multiplayer feels like an afterthought ; Ludonarrative dissonance ; Killer bushes

But this goes to show that the graphics are great. The environments are vast and beautiful. There's a lot to explore if you want to take a look away and decide to ignore the objective arrow. There are optional tombs to discover, plenty of puzzles to...

Leonidas couldn't kill Xerxes, so I did it for him.

I remember playing this game with my cousin when I was really too young to understand the mechanics of it. When I saw this available for download over the Internet (because its impossible to find in stores now) I knew I had to. So I downloaded it and ...

a classic ; grabs your attention easily ; I can't explain it, just very fun

poor graphics ; time consuming ; villagers are...(for lack of a better word) stupid
