Warhammer 40,000: Dawn of War - Soulstorm

Expansion packs are something of a dying phenomenon. They're still being released of course, but they were really born of an era before downloadable content packs, or even broadband Internet. Now that it's incredibly easy to distribute bits of new...

To be honest, I went into this review expecting to write a more upbeat appraisal. I love the game, I really do, and I'd recommend it to anyone who's still playing Dawn of War. If you're not you may want to wait for the full sequel to the game, which is...

Warhammer 40,000: Dawn of War II -- Chaos Rising

The path of Chaos is tempting indeed.

Character import feature is awesome; new level cap and loot bring back the addiction; story as epic a Space Marine tale as ever

Game offers few reasons to stay on the good side; very few side missions; online play still underwhelming

Warhammer: Dawn of War II

The latest game from the insanely popular Dawn of War real time strategy (RTS) series has had a bit of a re-imagining, and it seems like Warhammer's creators, Games Workshop, had a lot more to do with it this time.

Warhammer 40k: Dawn of War II

New challenge

Streamlined gameplay focusing more on squad tactics than micro-management

Core RTS Sfans will be disappointed by the changes that have been made

From a graphics standpoint, Dawn of War II looks nice. It certainly isn't going to stress your system a whole lot but it looks good and runs fast, something that a game of this type needs to do consistently. If there is a complaint about the...

Warhammer 40,000: Dawn of War - Soulstorm Review for the PC

Light showers.

Tons of maps; Plenty to do in single-player; Excellent multiplayer; Solid performance

Aging graphics; New factions aren't interesting

The music is much the same Jeremy Soule fare of previous games – bombastic, enjoyable, very clean, and appropriate-sounding. I would occasionally switch it off in favor of my own music, especially when playing the Tau – how can I play anything other...

Warhammer 40,000: Dawn of War - Soulstorm on PC games

The Best Of The Bunch

Soulstorm does many things differently than many of the other RTS games that have been released in the last ten years, and it does all of them amazingly well. While the main downfall might be a slight over powering of some of the later units, and...

Dawn of War: Soulstorm

Sometimes a developer just has to realize when it's time to move on. A little over a year ago, Dawn of War released a very fun expansion, Dark Crusade. It did just about everything right for an expansion—new races, a fun new non-linear campaign, and a...

There’s nothing new under the Dawn of War sun. Soulstorm is just a repeat of the Dark Crusade expansion, with two different factions thrown into the mix. It might be worth a look for those who absolutely have to complete the series, but most will get...

Warhammer 40,000: Dawn of War: Soulstorm PC Review

There's something to be said about the Dawn of War series, of its focus on battle and unit management rather than base building, and its laying of the foundation for one of the best real-time-strategy games on the market (Company of Heroes, that is)....

Same winning formula from previous titles; new races and flying units

Flying units seem poorly implemented; serious technical issues with new races; campaign mode gets a little repetitive

The other new race is the Dark Eldar, an evil offshoot of the Eldar. They're like the Chaos Marines of the Eldar, only with less chaos and more evil. They're a race that focuses on quick hit-and-run attacks, since while they can deal some pretty good...

Warhammer 40,000: Dawn of War - Soulstorm (PC)

By the time Warhammer 40,000: Dawn of War - Soulstorm hits the bargain bin and can be had for 20 bucks, it should be worth the investment -- chances are the game will have received a patch or two by then and the active mod community will have cranked...
