Rival 37401 4-Quart Slow Cooker

Perky red color, convenient oval shape, handy smaller size.

Watch out for that sneaky Warm setting.

A Rival For My Affections

I thought I hated slow cookers, but it turns out that I just hated my old slow cooker. It was a huge beast, too big for one-person-sized cooking; it didn't have a stoneware insert, so you had to fling the whole thing, cord and all, into the sink to...

Convenient Food but Slow Food

A very useful piece of no-nonsense kitchen equipment. Easy to use and highly convenient for casseroles and stews. Pop the ingredients and leave it safely cooking slowly while you get on with other things. Nice clean lines too. Good value for money....

Great for chicken broth

Now I can easily prepare my favourite chicken broth receipt. The slow cooker doesn't have any light to indicate it is on, the way to realise it is actually on, you need to touch the pot, the pot becomes warm but doesn't burn you.

Very useful prod

Cooks well, but would like a light to tell when it is on like other slow cookers. Only way to tell it is on is to put your hand on it which could be dangerous.

Good, but not great

The big plus is that it has two cooking settings, and a "keep warm" option. The negatives for us are:As others have noted, the heat settings are a bit too high - there is always some burnt-on food to soak off the crock, though we haven't noted any burnt...
