Clearly people have different opinions on the reception. That has to be because we all have different devices and sources of "noise". I would say to buy the phone from a place where they offer no hassle returns so you can test it in your own environment.

don't worry about programming second handsets, took about 30 seconds. love the speaker phone on the base in case you can't find a handset when a call is coming in. i've had many, this is the best.

durable, sits upright on bottom, great sound

I've had this phone over two years now. I bought it for its features, like long range, sound quality, and speakerphones on the handsets. The performance on the handhelds has been fine.
