iTunes 9 isn't a small or quick software install ; it's a notorious hog of system resources ; and the AAC music downloads are not as universally compatible as the MP3 files offered by most competitors

iTunes 9 is a natural, yet relatively minor, evolution of Apple's popular media management software and is a required download for new iPod owners.

Still no unlimited music subscription option. No way to rip or transcode video content. iTunes LPs and Extras lacking. Not enough HD movies or rentals in the iTunes Store. Tracks and albums often cost more than at Amazon MP3

Apple cements its status at the market leader for music playback software with iTunes 9. It's a significant revamp that finally fixes media synchronization between computers, and makes the iTunes Store more inviting than before.

iTunes 9 has a number of new features, such as iTunes LP, Home Sharing, and the redesigned Apple iTunes Store.

I can't think of a reason not to upgrade to iTunes 9 and iPhone OS 3.1 (unless your phone is jailbroken, in which case you might want to hold off for now). iTunes does need something of an overhaul, though. The sidebar, for example, is starting to get ...
