eMachines ET1831-07

eMachines' $389 ET1831-07 is one of the least expensive desktops we've reviewed this year. Its traditional midtower case might not offer as much visual charm as the small form factor Nettops you'll find in this price range, but this eMachines is...

Strong features for a low price; on certain tests, outperforms desktops that cost $125 more; room to expand inside; power-efficient

Gaudy green-lit plastic strip on the front of the case; poor video playback performance

The eMachines ET1831-07 isn't much of a video playback device, but in all other respects, this is a solid budget PC. Perhaps the best deal going for its features, it also outperforms other desktops in and above its price range on general computing...

eMachines ET1831-07

It's common knowledge that the lower the cost of a desktop system, the more likely it will be a machine that cuts corners to achieve that price. You don't often find a system that performs as admirably as its price is low. The eMachines ET1831-07, a...

Strong price-to-performance ratio ; Lots of storage space

Lacks gigabit ethernet networking ; Cluttered internal wiring

Offering capable performance and a stellar price tag, the eMachines ET1831-07 may not top the charts, but it's a great value.

In all, a great budget box for the price. Not good for gaming.

Stinks at gaming

Great little machine with min upgrades needed

This is one of the systems I have at home, with an upgraded power supply and nice video card it performs exceptionally well. With my Blu Ray and dvd/cd burner i have an excellent system for less than $400.00. With Windows 7 64 bit it out performs my...

inexpensive, reliable, solid performer. I love the big green power light.I can easily see from across the room if I have left it on

Not the latest and greatest

An easy to set up machine.

The Windows 7 partition can be reduced by about one half with the Disk Manager, giving room for a good sized extended partition. The machine is delivered with three partitions, all in use. Full screen YouTube video is just fine; maybe the GeForce 7100...

My machine came with a terabyte hard drive, on which I could put 10 linux distros in 45 gig logical partitions on the extended partition. Plus a 3 gig swap partition on the extended partition ; My machine also came with GeForce 7100 graphics chip

Unlike with Dell machines, no Windows 7 disk is included; you get a restore partition and can make restore disks

eMachines ET1831-07

A great system to upgrade but if you don't have a power supply or video card to put in it don't get it unless it's for grandmaw. I put a 680w power supply in mine and added my PCIe video card and a 1 TB hard Drive. (all of which I already had) I am...

Nice looking case. Spacious main Hard-Drive. 4gb memory and very inexpensive

POWER SUPPLY !! CASE Design ! Why do PC makers continue to put in such low power supplies on systems that have a PCIe slot for video ? Wasn't even a connector on the power supply for the PCIe card. Better power supplies are not that expensive. I hate...

great computer and a recommended buy if you're in the market for an inexpensive new computer.

750GB HDD is massive for the $389 price. Windows 7 Home Premium 64bit and 4GB of ram. very impressive and smoothly operating computer. dual core cpu

cluttered internal wiring. very seldom but some video is a bit choppy. probably because of no video card aside from the built in chip. just the tower, no monitor

eMachines ET1831-07

Overall, more computer than I expected for the money. The addition of a 50$ video card makes this computer perfectly acceptable for almost anything the average user is likely to do.

Surprisingly good performance for the price. Given the speed of broadband (Verizon DSL) in our area, I haven't noticed any sort of networking hits due to the fast ethernet choice. The machine is surprisingly quiet as well

Video capabilities are anemic but very easy to upgrade. The keyboard and mouse are both generic and need to be replaced
