AOpen XC Cube EZ482 - SFF Barebone

The small form factor PC market is really hotting up. So how does AOpen's latest XC Cube measure up to the competition?

The motherboard is feature laden with four SATA connectors, two IDE connectors, a mini FDD connector with a suitable cable, two memory slots, a PCI and an x16 PCI Express slot. Around the back are two PS/2 ports, a serial, a parallel port, a D-SUB...

So-so

This is an ok barebone. I would recommend it for your grandma or accountant. I would not recommend it if you like to tinker with your hardware a lot. I currently run it without the cover and a large fan blowing over the hard drive.

Stable, pretty, good I/O ports on the back. Power supply is adequate for X2 processor, two hard drives, dvd burner, and a x700 video card

Poor cooling - Hard drive hits 50C. Unable to access the temp sensors from inside windows ; Annoying to tinker with - have to remove tall PCI/PCIE cards to access hard drives ; Bios are limited (few RAM timing settings) ; Linux install is tricky

One more thing to mention

One more thing I wanted to mention was with the optical drive. I had to readjust it because it wasn't up far enough to hit the button. I used the AOpen DVD +/- RW drive (black of course) in it. In the tray itself, I've got about half the bezel just...

Everything. This is a follow up for my other review since there was a bit I neglected to mention

A Good Machine

I cautiously purchased a refurbished EZ482 and have been very happy with my purchase. I have had no problems. I'm playing all the demanding games using my X2 3800 AMD CPU, and 6800GS Video card. I recommend this SFF whole-heartedly!

A beautiful, quiet case with excellent performance

Finger Prints Everywhere! But microfiber cloth is included to take care of them

Great System

Small Quiet Cool running. Great price. Fairly easy installation for the small amount of space

Bought two of these both have insuffficeint power running to the pci express slot so get a card that plugs into the powersupply

Not bad

Great for my daughter and wife. I am a gamer and have a full sized system

Not bad, SFF, 64b support, ob vid/sound, and does what you expect it to do

DL the latest drivers or else. Vid is not for gamming, and I agree that the drive button is a pain

AOpen XC CUBE EZ482 AMD Athlon 64 FX / Athlon 64 / Sempron AMD Socket 939 ATI RS482 ATI Radeon Xpress 300 Barebone

This machine in my opinion is a little on the pricey side for the quality of components that you get. You could easily get better video for the same price i think. And yes, when they ship it to you the power setting is at 220, not 115 so you will have...

Quiet, small - doesnt take up too much space, onboard components, well designed and looks cool

The video isnt all that great if you ask me. Im not a gamer or anything, it just seems a little choppy at times when im scrolling. Also my front audio and reset buttons didnt work when i got mine, so i returned it

Excellent

I thought there might be a power problem with only a 275W unit and all my stuff, but there is none at all. Athlon 64 3200 Radeon X800 2x512 Crucial Audigy 2 2x250gb Sata 16x DVD RW As usual NewEgg is the best. I don't buy from anywhere else anymore.

Good onboard Video/audio. I checked them out before I installed my stuff. Front and back Audio/USB/Firewire ; Very Quiet. No heat issues

No floppy with SATA drivers for driver install during Windows install

The Best Around

Get it. its easy to work on and easy to upgrade. Great deal. 240 @ time of writing.

This is an amazing machine. It runs better than my other computer ; Specs ; XC Cube ; 3700 San Diego ; 2GB Corsair XMS 2-3-3-6 ; PNY Radeon x800 ; 320GB SATA Hard Drive

Absolutly none. Very satisfied. Better than I expected

The heat is not problem

I always worried about the heat generated by AMD CPUs, so I am very picky to the cooling function of a system. I install AMD Athlon 64 FX53 CPU to this barebone, and 2 512 RAM, a 7200rpm HD, a 6600 display card, and a TV tuner card. I am always worried...
