Consumer review (newegg.com)

When it works, it works..

I've had an HP EX470, and wish I still had it at this point. It was far more reliable (albeit a bit more noisy), and their support was vastly superior than Acer. I would reccomend staying away from Acer solely based on their totally lacking customer...

This box is a great form-factor, and when it works, it works great. Adding a few drives so I ended up with 6TB of storage was great for storing photos (many of them up to 2GB in size as I do photography and graphic rendering). It's quiet, too

When something fails, good luck getting any decent support from Acer. The network card on mine has died a painful death, and I am now into week 3 just trying to get them to acknowledge it's still under warranty (they confirm the purchase date by NewEgg...

AWESOME PRODUCT

This product is FANTASTIC! The setup of the unit and configuration for user accounts and access privileges was remarkably easy. The response via the web interface is great. The web interface is also very straight forward and easily understood. I would...

Easy to setup. Easy to use. Instructions are excellent. Response for remote access is fantastic (may vary by ISP). Adding additional drives is simple and very easy to configure

Initial unit arrived with defective hard drive, but NewEgg replaced it with and advance exchange and the replacement was flawless

Works, but...

If you find anti-virus software that can be installed on the Acer home server and will run, strongly urge that you post the information in your own review. Otherwise, strongly recommend that you not activate the remote access option.

Hardware works fine. Windows Home Server software does what it's supposed to do in my exclusively Windows-based network. Installation straightforward

The pre-loaded trial version of McAfee Total Protection is no longer offered by McAfee; you cannot activate the software, so it is useless to you (per Acer America) ; Also, this piece of equipment was built by Acer more than 1 year ago. I had to FAX...

Crashed

Looks nice. Great idea

Can't turn off the Norton option. Crashed in less than three months. Shipping to Acer at my expense but my confidence in trusting my entire digital life to this unit is destroyed

acer Aspire Easystore Intel Atom 1.6Ghz 2GB DDR2 2TB GBLAN 4 Bay Hotswap Windows Home Server

Great little server box, very easy to increase the storage of the server. Thanks to Drive Extender in the older version of WHS (which this is thankfully) you don't even need to stick in harddrives of the same size and no setup of raid, just install any...

None, gonna miss Drive extended in the later versions of WHS though

Good Unit, Windows Home Server isn't all that versatile

Ubuntu Server is a tricky install as well. You have to install the server using another machine, install openssh, set the static ip and clear out a network device cache in order to move the drive over and get it to boot with network access. This took...

4 bay network storage combo'd with second 2TB drive for total of 4TB, all under $400 ; The directions got me up and started in under 10 minutes ; Makes a great linux server box

The first problem I hit was that I needed a static ip for this unit. The remote management software could not specify the ip of the computer, and therefore wouldn't connect to it ; Then I began to set up simple user shares..... Maybe not so simple. I...

Great little box

I got this on black friday for a bit less money - making the deal even sweeter. I've also since bought another one at the current price - and don't regret it. Its easy to set up for novice users who don't want to think about their back up solution. In...

Easy setup ; cost to benefit ratio is favorable ; hands off operation ; quiet ; easily upgraded ; small and unobtrusive (that's what she said) ; one touch usb backup ; low power usage ; lots of other things i can't think of right now ; This machine has...

limited interface (resolved by using VNC or windows remote desktop) ; limited troubleshooting in the case of a network related failure (on the machine itself) - resolved by using a USB video adapter* keep in mind - this is NOT intended to be a desktop...

Horrible Support

My initial experience was fine until the unit developed a problem, backup service stopped running. It may be my own problem but after I reset the unit to factory default, I can't connect anymore to perform the initial setting. Without initial setting,...

Small footprint, quiet and initial running was fine

Once when you have problem, forget about support from Acer. They always direct you to paid support even when the product is under warranty. I am having software problems and they just don't care. I can't get RMA since software problem is not covered....

Great Low-Wattage System

I added a second 2Tb drive to ensure there was room for all of my music and videos.

Quiet and small, this little server will fit just about anyplace where you have power and a working Ethernet connection ; Very easy set-up, only took about 1/2 an hour and I was able to back-up my existing server to it. Adding extra hard drives takes...

Nothing against the machine - but it would be nice to be able to back-up the server to external drives for off-site storage. I haven't figured that one out yet

6-Week Update

The included Mcafee is crapware, and you DO NOT have the option to not install it. This knocks off 2 eggs, maybe 3. It was always giving me alerts to take an action in the server console, yet when you try to, it would lock everything up...reboot. But...
