Asus EeeBox EB1501

Like the netbook, the nettop PC has a cute look to it that makes it easy to envision sitting anywhere from sitting on a desk to next to an HDTV. Asus, the manufacturer that inadvertently started the netbook craze, is betting that there is some...

Sleek and refined design fits any décor ; nVidia Ion helps make high-quality video and gaming possible ; HDMI output for video, eSATA port for fast external hard drive access ; Useful remote included ; Windows 7 Media Center provides easy DVR...

Expensive relative to competitors ; Can’t handle all HD video ; Intel Atom still anemic ; Hit-and-miss gaming capabilities ; Too much bloatware ; No built-in TV tuner

A slot-loading DVD drive sets Asus’ EeeBox 1501 apart from the nettop pack, but a high price and spotty HD playback keep it from being the ultimate home theater companion.

Asus Eee Box EB1501

Nettops like the $475 Asus Eee Box PC EB1501 aren't meant for getting work done. Instead, they promise an end-around to the closed environment of your cable box, opening up your living room to the near-infinite amount of content available via various...

Clean, understated design.

Can't play 1080p QuickTime files smoothly; caught in an uncomfortable pricing middle ground between cheaper Web-enabled Blu-ray players and slightly higher-end slim tower PCs; weak tech support.

We like the looks of Asus' Eee Box EB1501, but it's pricier than Blu-ray players that stream content from the Web, and not as powerful as slightly more expensive slim tower PCs that offer significantly more speed and power. Asus made a decent attempt...

ASUS EeeBox EB1501 Review

ASUS made waves a few years ago by creating the netbook category with the first Eee PC.

Small ; Doesn't use much electricity ; Can decode 1080p content

Vampire power ; Stutters on some HD Flash ; Pricey for feature set

In all, the Asus EeeBox EB1501 proved to be a capable little box, though it's still a nettop at its core. The dual-core Atom which powers the box is enough to handle day-to-day office tasks and low-powered computer activities such as web browsing,...

Great Home Theater PC

Home theater PCs are a must-have for techies out there. I bought this one knowing that I would be hooking it up right away and using it a lot. Though this hasn't replaced my need for cable, it is still a great buy. Since this did not have an OS, I...

do not buy

I researched media center computers for a long time. The Asus EB1501 seemed to have everything I wanted at a good price point. It set up flawlessly until it was time to get the audio output. I hooked up the S/pdif adapter to a Toslink optical cable to...

Did yours arrive looking used?

Let me first say that I did not buy this from NewEgg. In any case, I returned the first unit I received because it was so filthy I thought I had been given a refurb or a floor model. I got my replacement and the replacement was almost as bad. I called...

The machine works fine. Using an external BlacX eSata drive bay and a WD20EARS 2tb drive the power consumption is between 30 and 35 watts. Pretty good in my opinion

Good stuff when you know what your doing

After some tweaking and in the installation of flash 10.1 with hardware acceleration for H.264 I finally got this little guy running pretty good. The price could have been a bit cheaper for this with all things considered, or atleast give us 4gigs of...

ASUS Eee Box EB1501

I ended up returning this, I was really looking for a small HTPC and this didn't cut it. Trying to stream Hulu was a joke, and the remotes interface with WMP was laggy and slow to respond. This did not cut it for me. I ended up getting a Zino HD.
